Halois one of the most recognizable and popular franchises in gaming history. Recently, 343 claimed that it was endeavoring to reach a wider audience withHalo, as seen through theHaloTV show streaming on Paramount+. Now,Halois going beyond games and TV to bring themed meals and recipes into fans' homes with an official cookbook developed by prolific gaming cookbook author Victoria Rosenthal, who previously worked ontheFinal Fantasy XIVrecipe book.
Though there was some initial confusion whether this was a belated April Fool’s Joke by theHaloTwitter account, it was later proven to be true, with the cookbook having an official preorder page on Amazon. This news comes days after the announcement of aWitcher-themed cookbook releasing later this year, perhaps proving that gaming cookbooks are becoming more prominent. In the past, other popular games have had official cookbooks launched includingDestinyandOverwatch.

TheOverwatchcookbook even built on the game’s lore, allowing for fans to delve deeper into some of their favorite characters. While theHalocookbook is also touted by author Victoria Rosenthal as building on the universe, though fans shouldn’t expect any major lore moments to be revealed through this cookbook. With over 70 recipes,Halofans will be able to make anything from “portable snacks you’re able to take with you in the Warthog to decadent spreads to feed the entire squadron.” Players won’t have to have Gordon Ramsay levels of culinary skills to make most of the meals either, as Rosenthal has included detailed guides and photos to help hopeful chefs.
As mentioned, Rosenthal is an experienced author in terms of gaming cookbooks. She’s worked on recipe books forStreet Fighter, Fallout, andDestiny, running a website known as Pixelated Provisions where gamers can find all sorts of gaming-related recipes. The gaming cookbook has become quite popular in recent times, as shown by Rosenthal’s extensive list of books and the existence of other recipe books related to games, such as theHeroes' Feast Dungeons and Dragonscookbook. There’s even been aHalorecipe released before its official cookbook, after the Master Chief Voice Actor provided his instructions on how to make “Master Chief Chili.”
SomeHalofans aren’t too excited about the announcement though. Since thecontroversial release ofHalo Infinite, franchise developer 343 Industries has had quite the tumultuous relationship with its fans. Players in the comments ofHalo’sTwitter post made jokes about the state of the game coinciding with the recipe book, with one fan saying “do these recipes call for serving them half-baked and telling everyone you’ll finish cooking them in a few months?” Other fans mentioned that the cookbook didn’t have anything to do with the development of the game, causing the complaining fans to quieten down slightly on social media.
TheHalo Cookbookis available for pre-order now and will release in August.
