In the modern age of online gaming, unfortunately nothing lasts forever. Online servers can be pretty expensive to host, and when only a handful of people are playing older titles, developers will often axe the online component altogether. That’s exactly whatEpic Gamesis doing to a handful of its older games across a wide variety of platforms. Luckily, for the most part, these games are very old, and their respective fan-bases will have likely moved on to more modern iterations, but that still spellsbad news for achievement hunters.

Shutting down the online servers for a game not only renders its online component forever unplayable, but it also means that players can no longer unlock any achievements or trophies tied to those online game modes. While more modern releases have started to restrict their achievement list to just single-player objectives, that’s not the case forXbox 360 and PS3-era titles, and Epic Games is about to shut down the online servers to a good few of them.

After developing thefirst twoGuitar Herogames, Harmonix decided to leave that brand behind, and start a brand new rhythm game franchise. Introducing drums, vocals, and bass,Rock Bandwas a natural and innovative next step for the developer. ThoughRock Bandwould go on to be in direct competition with theGuitar Heroseries, it would continue to stand out for its more complex and authentic approach to rhythm-based gameplay. Unfortunately, Epic Games is shutting down the servers for the first threeRock Bandgames, as well as theGreen DayandBeatlesspinoffs, and there are a few trophies fans might want to get before that happens.

Rock Band 3:

The online achievement list for theRock Bandseries isn’t too daunting. NeitherBeatles: Rock BandnorGreen Day: Rock Bandhave any form of online achievements, so fans don’t need to worry about their online servers being shut down.Rock Band 1, 2and3, on the other hand, do have a few online-only achievements.Rock Band 1’s achievements are by far the hardest, with it being nearly impossible to find, let alone win 20 matches of both Tug of War and Score Duel. Unfortunately,Rock Band 3’s “Well Connected” achievement is no longer attainable, as the website has been revised.

Unreal Franchise

One of the leading first-person shooter franchises of the late 1990s and early 2000s, Epic Games is also shutting down the online servers for a selection ofUnrealgames. Used to showcase just how powerful each iteration of the Unreal Engine has been, theUnrealfranchise is split into single-player-focusedUnrealgames, andmultiplayer-focusedUnreal Tournamenttitles. Naturally, it’s theUnreal Tournamentseries that has all of the online achievements.

Unreal Tournament 3:

The only game in theUnrealfranchise that has online achievements isUnreal Tournament 3,but unfortunately, there are some pretty impossible commendations in its list. Even the easiest achievements inUnreal Tournament 3require players to earn a multitude of awards or kills in matches, requiring quite a bit of play-time. Then there are the near-impossible achievements, like getting 200 kills on 50 different days. Luckily,Epic Gamesis planning on bringing back the online servers forUnreal Tournament 3at a later date, so players will still have time to get all of its online-only trophies.
