Rob Kostich, the president of Activision, recently teased some upcoming surprises forCall of Duty: Modern Warfarewhile attending anActivision BlizzardQ4 Investor Call. He also elaborated on some of the recent decisions Activision has made for the game.
Activision and Infinity Wardrecently removedModern Warfare’s Season Passin favor of the new Battle Pass. So, an investor asked Activision what kind of impact that had on the player base. Kostich answered the question on behalf of the company and, in the process, hinted that new features would be coming to the game later this year. He didn’t necessarily specify when, however.

In regards to the Season Pass, Kostich claimed that Activision wanted to giveModern Warfareplayers a “better overall experience,” as the Season Pass, in particular, unintentionally split theCall of Dutycommunity. As such, Kostich is happy that Activision and Infinity Ward implementedcross-playand cross-progression, two features that allow players to play with anyone no matter what platform they’re on. Kostich went on to comment on his delight at seeing how these new features have broughtCall of Dutyplayers back together.
Kostich then mentioned that new content would be coming toModern Warfarein the future; however, he didn’t specify anything. He said that Activision intends to supplyModern Warfarewith great content for “the long haul.” He also mentioned Season 2 directly, claiming it would be a “great pipeline of new content” when it arrives next week.
While the content wasn’t explicitly talked about, it’s likely that Season 2 will finally introduce aBattle Royal mode. There’s already a lot of evidence suggesting that Infinity Ward is developing it, so it could very well be one of the new modes introduced with the new Season 2 update.
The addition of more Gunfight variants seems obvious since it’s easily one of the most popular game modes inModern Warfare. And, since Kostich pointed out that Activision wants to focus on the new Battle Pass and Item Shop features of the game, players can likely expect more cosmetic content to be making its way over. Whether or not all of this will be arriving in Season 2 remains a mystery, though. Some things may have to wait until Season 3 for a release. Players don’t have long to find out about what’s coming, though, asModern Warfare’sSeason 2 begins on February 11.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfareis available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
