Since the release of the first everAnimal Crossinggame on the Nintendo 64 way back in 2001, villagers have been the main talking point of the games, andAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsis no different. There are eight different types of villagers, who are sorted by personality types. The range gives the game quite a unique characteristic. Interacting with villagers with different personality types may fill players with joy, frustration, or even make their roll your eyes, but that’s what makes the game fun.

To a lot of players, the types of villagers they have on their island is what makes or breaks their joy in the New Horzions game as well as theothers in the series, which is why personality type really is so important.
9Jock
Jock villagers are the most commonly found inNew Horizons, as there are 78 featured in the game. They are obsessed with fitness, and maintain the personality of a typical “gym bro”. They often brag about how much they can bench press or squat, and can even sometimes be seen trying to aggressively persuade other non-Jock villagers to challenge them to a fitness challenge that they have no interest in.
They often don’t get along very well with other villagers, particularly the Lazy type, as they are the complete opposite to Jocks. However, Jocks are energetic and friendly to talk to as the player, but can sometimes feel extremely repetitive with the excessive use of “bro” talk, but this can sometimes be excused as they have some of thefunniest things to sayout of all personalities.

8Snooty
Snooty villagers are presented as high-class and somewhat pretentious. They will always have expensive looking clothes and accessories, and their homes will always be decorated incredibly fashionably.
They like to think of themselves as mature and sophisticated, and can originally appear standoffish on the first meeting. However, as you speak to them more, you’ll see that they’re actually very friendly and fun to interact with, even if they do like to speak about themselves excessively.

7Cranky
Cranky villagers are highly irritatable, and can be described as agrandad kind of character.Even when giving them gifts or interacting with them nicely, they’ll often play-down your actions and seem annoyed throughout the day, but seem to take enjoyment out of gossiping about others.
Their voices are also surprisingly deep, which fits their “old man” persona very well. Although they can seem unfriendly, they do eventually warm up to players the more you interact. On the surface, they may seem boring and like they want to be left alone, but really, they’re just nervous introverts ready to be broken out of their shells.

6Sisterly
Sisterly villagers are just what you can expect from the name. They’re very caring of the player right from the start, and enjoy joking and sharing stories with them. They will often want to chat to the player and give them gifts, and will be one of the first to give medicine if they have been stung by a bee.
Despite their caring nature, Sisterly villagers definitely have a temper, too. If you torment them by hitting them with nets, they will not be afraid to become aggressive, blunt and furious with the player. So, basically, don’t attack Sisterly villagers, and players will have a friend for life.

5Normal
Normal villagers, as the name suggests, are your average, nondescript characters. There isn’t much particularly special about them, as they enjoy an easy life and often express love for reading, cooking, ordoing choresin general.
Normal villagers seem to be the most insecure personality type, and will sometimes use self-deprecating humor with the player, and will be disappointed easily. Despite this, though, they are mother-like figures around the island, and are always wanting to chat with the player whenever they feel like it.

4Smug
Often described as the male equivalent of Snooty villagers, Smug personality types come across as high-class individuals, who have expensive taste. Unlike Snooty personalities, Smug villagers seem to be more friendly to the player inNew Horizons, despite their love for all things fancy.
Smug villagers are definitely one of the cheekiest personality types, making them one of the morefun ones to interact with. They have a great sense of humor and will often give words of wisdom to the player about life, which unironically hits home sometimes.

3Peppy
Peppy villagers are the unique personality type of all. They have extremely vivid imaginations, and manifest big things for themselves by describing themselves as popstars constantly. They are very friendly and seem to be the most impacted if the player goes away for a long period of time. This makes them some of thebest to interact with.
They take genuine interest in the player and are easily excitable, often saying phrases like “yayyyyy!” and slang like “totally!” which makes them easy to get along with. As they are seen as quite innocent and “girly”, they often find themselves arguing with cranky villagers because of their contrasting lifestyles and personalities.

1Lazy
Last, but certainly not least, are Lazy villagers. What more is there to say than they’re just adorable? These personalities areknown for prioritizing food, relaxation and can be seen as quite childish. But this is all the more reason to love them.
Lazy villagers will truly feel like your best friends, and love to give you nicknames and find out about your favorite beverages. Above all, though, they’re just absoulutely adorable, so surely there’s no one that can resist having at least one Lazy villager on their island.
