Summary
AnAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsplayer has found a bizarre way to pitfall themselves after crossing a river. Pitfalls have been used in the series since the beginning, but thisAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsclip highlights a unique possibility.
Sincethe firstAnimal Crossinggameon the GameCube, players could dig holes and leave Pitfall Seeds behind for unsuspecting Villagers. Beyond messing with the inhabitants of a village, players could also use these on each other to inspire surprised reactions. This is a theme that has been maintained across every title in the series, with Pitfalls resulting in some hilariousAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsmoments. Sometimes players dig up holes that they intend to return to with fruit or items in the future. One gamer stumbled on a unique way to use these holes against any visitors who may not be aware of a key possibility.

Reddit user Olive-pearl recently shared a clip that highlights theircustomAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsVillagerpole vaulting into a hole. The clip begins with the player holding a Vaulting Pole between a river and a cherry blossom tree. They then aim at four holes across the river and press the A button to vault across the body of water. As their character reaches the ground, they plummet into the nearest hole, resulting in the scrambling Pitfall Seed animation. Despite the hole being empty upon contact, the Villager spends a moment floating above it as if they had stepped on an area marked by a Pitfall Seed. They then thrash around for a few seconds before flipping out of the hole and standing on the newly formed ground.
Can Other Villagers Fall Into These Holes?
Although this animation has always been possible, it’s rare for players to stumble across it by pole vaulting across a river. The animation of the Villager plummeting into the hole seems tied to theAnimal Crossing: New HorizonsPitfall Seed. This is evidenced by the character floating in place before falling, and the button-mash mini-game required to escape the hole. Because other Villagers may not fall into these holes in the absence of a Vaulting Pole, the tool may be used in the same way by an unwitting visitor. This same issue may be spotted by players who climb down cliffs next to a hole or gamers who hop across narrow passages that have holes at the other end.
While this hole mishap has been possible sinceNew Horizonswas released, some players still haven’t encountered it. AsNintendo rarely updatesAnimal Crossing: New Horizonsanymore, this animation may not be adjusted before the game’s successor releases.
