Plenty of content came toApex Legendslast week with the start of Season 6. Players now have a new character to play as, a new SMG to shoot, anew crafting system to work with, and several changes to World’s Edge, to list off the highlights. If the latest discoveries from the game’s files are to be believed, however, they will soon have a new feature to utilize as well: emotes that can be used on the ground.
Other popular online games have leaned rather heavily on their emote usage (takeFortnite’s vast library of emotes that serve as one of that game’s main cosmetic items, for instance), butApexhasn’t really done the same.Season 2 introduced skydiving emotesthat let players express themselves a little more than usual when dropping onto the map, but so far there’s been no way for them to do the same once they land and the match is underway.

The latest leaks to make their way online suggest that will be changing soon. Noted leakers Shrugtal and Biast12 have uncovered new evidence that ground emotes are in development forApex Legends. The first piece of these is a screenshot from a recent developer stream that Shrugtal captured, which shows a brand new icon next to the skydive emote icon.
That alone isn’t a concrete sign that that’s supposed to be for ground emotes, but that’s where Biast12 comes in. They shared a datamined animation ofMiragegiving one of his holographic copies a high-five, something that seems like it could only be a ground emote. Backing that up further, Biast12 pointed out that the animation’s file name was called “stand_emote.”
So it looks like players will have new emotes to look forward to in the near future. True, that might not be as exciting as, say, seeingApex Legendsget a new map, but it would go a long way towards letting players bring out a little more of each Legend’s unique personality on the battlefield.
Ground emotes aren’t the only thing dataminers claim are coming to the game soon. Shrugtal and Biast12 have also uncovered evidence suggesting all sorts of upcoming content, such as anew skin for Loba and new weapon skins later on in Season 6. Additionally, it’s been claimed thatApex’s Halloween-themed limited-time mode Shadowfall will return this year, going by the name Shadow Royale. Whether any of these leaks turn out to be legit remains to be seen, though.
Apex Legendsis free-to-play for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Switch version to follow sometime this fall.
