InFinal Fantasygames, players can equip a variety of weapons on their characters. Despite this, the protagonist usually ends up with one set of weapons that is iconic for them. For the same reasons thatplayers always envision Cloud with his Buster Sworddespite it often being discarded early on in the game in favor of better equipment, Xidane fromFinal Fantasy 9is most often depicted with a pair of Mage Mashers. These daggers can be combined to form a thief sword, which typically keeps the color scheme of the Mage Masher and the appearance of The Ogre thief sword.
Final Fantasy 9may not get quite as much love asFinal Fantasy 7orFinal Fanatsy 6, but it still has some diehard fans. Redditor KUMOtenka must be one of them, as they have created a beautiful replica of Xidane’s iconic weapons. The attention to detail in this craft is amazing, and fans seem to be thrilled about it.

As the video below shows, KUMOtenka created both of theMage Masher daggersseparately, each with a tassel on the hilt just like in the game. This craft becomes at least ten times cooler once it is revealed that the two weapons can be combined to form a thief sword, likely thanks to magnets in the hilts. The blades connect to each other and unattach with ease, and they look absolutely gorgeous. Unfortunately, KUMOtenka doesn’t share too much about the process of making these weapons, but does reply to a comment and confirm that they are made of foam.
Ironically, the Mage Masher daggers were initially a fairly weak weapon inFinal Fantasy 9,but they were displayed as his iconic weapon inXidane’s appearance inFinal Fantasy Dissidia. Since then, Xidane usually appears with these weapons at his side, as this is true for all sequels toFinal Fantasy Dissidiaand most otherFinal Fantasyanthology games such asTheatrythmorRecord Keeper.
KUMOtenka made this set of Mage Mashers as a commission, so players wanting to see more could always consider contacting them. They also do quite a bit of other cosplay work on their account, so simply scrolling through their profile will lead to a lotmore awesome video game crafts. While video games are great at creating passionate fanbases, it always tends to be the fans themselves that actually bring the games to life. This couldn’t be more true with KUMOtenka’s impressive Mage Masher creation.
