In the world of MMOs, it used to be thatWorld of Warcraftreigned supreme. There were very few other titles that could hold a candle to its popularity or the size of its playerbase, butFinal Fantasy 14changed all that. While it’s still impossible to definitively say which is better, the two are often compared or pitted against one another when they come up in discussion. For this reason, it came as a major surprise when it was revealed thatAsmongold, a premierWorld of Warcraftstreamer, would be trying theFinal FantasyMMO out for the first time on live stream.
This was no doubt an exciting event, and over 200,000 people tuned in to watch him play. Unfortunately, things didn’t go very smoothly, as the stream quickly descended into chaos due to a number of factors.Final Fantasy 14is known for its amazing community, but some players took their excitement about Asmongold’s stream a little too far.

Final Fantasy 14 - Asmongold Meets the Players
AlthoughFinal Fantasy 14is an MMO, the entire beginning portion of the game takes place in a singleplayer instance. It isn’t until one arrives at their starting town that they are able to start interacting with other players. In Asmongold’s case, this was the Lower Decks of Limsa Lominsa, but it seems as though players were waiting for him. As soon as Asmongold loaded into the public area that fans knew he’d be dropped off at, he was greeted by a crowd of players spamming moves as a welcome. This started off as a really touching moment, but it didn’t stay this way.
Final Fantasy 14 - Asmongold Stream Sniping and Server Issues
This eclectic welcome was amazing at first, but it never really stopped. Players continued to follow Asmongold around, spammingFinal Fantasy 14’s most explosive movesthat cover the screen with bright lights and particle effects. Because of this, it was very difficult for the streamer to actually play the game and progress through the story. To make matters worse, this also had an effect on the server itself, as it reached max capacity instantly and the server became very congested.
Final Fantasy 14 - Asmongold Dooms the Cactuar Server
As if ruiningAsmongold’s first experience withFinal Fantasy 14wasn’t bad enough, the actions of these stream snipers are also having an effect on players native to the Cactuar server. Because of the sheer number of players trying to get on the same server as Asmongold, players that have their main accounts on that server are experiencing massive queues in order to log in and play the game. Hopefully this erratic behavior will die down soon and Asmongold can enjoyFinal Fantasy 14for what it is.
Final Fantasy 14is available now on PC and PS4.
