Summary

OneBaldur’s Gate 3player came up with a fairly faithful recreation of Harrier “Harry” Du Bois fromDisco Elysiumin Larian’s hit RPG. Their feat is yet another testament to how powerful thecharacter creation capabilities ofBaldur’s Gate 3are.

When starting a new campaign,Baldur’s Gate 3players can choose between an Origin characteror a custom-created one. The latter option provides fans with plenty of granular control over their protagonist’s appearance. Many players have consequently been testing the limits of this feature with unique character designs ever since the game hit the store shelves on August 3.

In yet another example of those efforts, Reddit user HiperioN_VIII recently managed to recreate Harry Du Bois inBaldur’s Gate 3. The central piece of their design are the Glorious Muttonchops, one of the game’s facial hair options that’s nearly identical to theDisco Elysiumprotagonist’s beard, if only a bit more tidy. The player also went through the effort of mimicking Harry’s complexion and other facial features, to the point they even treated their hero to some light burgundy eye makeup reminiscent of the original character’s party-hardened face.

This faithful recreation of Harry wasn’t just for show, as HiperioN_VIII proceeded to use it as the basis for aDisco Elysium-inspired playthrough ofBaldur’s Gate 3. They hence ended up focusing on their character’s Wisdom attribute, treating its associated skill checks as Harry’s inner Drama voice from the detective RPG. For context,Disco Elysium’sDrama skill is primarily used for telling and recognizing lies; while the former is handled by Deception, the latter largely falls under the purview ofWisdom inBaldur’s Gate 3.

Disco Elysiumalso provides players with plenty of opportunities to flex their authority as the officer of the court even if they aren’t focused on developing a commanding presence. Likewise, HiperioN_VIII found that relying on the Illithid dialogue choices—available once per Long Rest—is enough to mimic this style of play inBaldur’s Gate 3. They eventually turned their Harry doppelganger into a low-Charisma Bard skilled in Perception, Investigation, Entertainment, and Acrobatics, all of which can also be learned inDisco Elysium, though usually under different names.

This impressive recreation of theDisco Elysiumprotagonist is far from the only customBaldur’s Gate 3character inspired by other popular franchises whom the fandom created to date. Another such hero surfaced online just several days back, when oneBaldur’s Gate 3player managed to recreate Triss Merigold fromThe Witcher.

Baldur’s Gate 3is available now on PC and launches September 6 on PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S port also in development.
