Ubisoft’sAssassin’s Creed Unitymight not be the freshest game in the series, but over the years it has slowly grown into one of the most beloved, particularly among fans of the original games. Set in the chaotic streets of revolutionary Paris during the late 18th Century, players take control of Arno Dorian as he seeks to avenge the murder of his father and join the ancient order of the assassins which the franchise is based around.
To be an effective assassin inAssassin’s Creed: Unity, players will need to utilize not only a diverse set of weapons and skills, but several other tools that can swing things in Arno’s favor. Many such tools can be unlocked through the purchase of Skills, and replenished from the Consumables tab when speaking to a vendor.
10Money Pouch
The Money Pouch is a distraction tool that can be used to lure guards away from their positions in order to gain access to certain areas or chests. It can also be used to draw crowds of enemies away from certain areas, or to get them to converge around Arno and provide him with cover.
This tool can be bought and replenished from vendors around the city, and it will not cost the player any Florins to use this ability. Overall, the tool can be useful in certain, but quite limited, situations.
9Poison Gas
Poison Gas is a slightly more potent area-of-effect tool that can be used to apply damage to enemies within a certain area. This can provide a big advantage, especiallyagainst stronger enemieswho may need to be weakened before challenging them head-on.
The downside of using Poison Gas is that Arno will incur damage whenever he steps into a poison cloud, which can make combating affected enemies quite difficult. The amount of damage given off by the Poison Gas is also not that significant, and other tools may be better for distracting or neutralizing certain enemies.
8Cherry Bomb
The Cherry Bomb is a useful tool for disrupting and distracting enemies, with the added bonus of driving some enemy types into a “berserk” mode. When in effect, this will cause troops toattack their own allies, meaning Arno can simply observe as his enemies face off against one another.
The Cherry Bomb will primarily affect Brutes, but some other enemies can also be driven into a rage when the Cherry Bomb is deployed. It also serves as a useful distraction why trying to navigate through heavily guarded areas.
7Stun Grenade
Stun Grenades are somewhere between the Smoke Bomb and the Cherry Bomb. This tool can be used to temporarily pacify enemies, and can be useful under high-pressure combat situations or in order to escape from a certain area.
Stun Grenades they will disorient enemies more and for a longer duration than the Cherry Bomb, but do not have the Berserk effect. However, when compared to the Smoke Bomb, the Stun Grenade is slightly more short-lived in terms of its effects.
6Mortar Bomb
The Mortar Bomb is a special kind of ammunition used in Guillotine Guns, which can be acquired by playerswho have purchased theDead KingsDLC. This powerful weapon doubles as an axe and a mortar, firing devastating explosive rounds that can wipe out entire groups of enemies.
While Guillotine Guns may not be the most agile weapons, they can be the most destructive, and this is all thanks to the power of the Mortar Bomb. Players can refill this ammunition much like any other consumable by visiting a vendor.
5Lockpick
Throughout the world ofAssassin’s Creed: Unity, players will find various chests which can be opened to obtain certain rewards. Many of the more lucrative chests are either guarded or hidden behind locked doors, and some chests will require lockpicks in order to break into them directly.
Ensuring that Arno is always fully stocked with lockpicks will prevent frustration andback-tracking through areasto unlock chests. It will also ensure that the player has plenty of Florins coming in, which can be used to upgrade Arno’s weapons and equipment.
4Berserk Blade
The Berserk Blade is a variation of the Phantom Blade. It fires a silent projectile at enemies, differentiating it tactically from the use of pistols. The Berserk Blade, much like the Cherry Bomb, will send certain enemies into a frenzy where they will attack their own comrades.
The Berserk Blade can also be useful when hunting down Riflemen from rooftops and balconies, as it can buy Arno vital time to climb or traverse towards them without the risk of being sniped in the process.
3Phantom Blade
The Phantom Blade is a similar projectile weapon, but rather than triggering a Berserk effect, the Phantom Blade’s attacks are lethal. These can be used topick off enemies from a distance, or as a surprise ranged attack during melee combat.
Players can also unlock the Improved Phantom Blade, which will enable them to fire more shots before having to reload. The main advantage of the blade is its silent nature, allowing players to remain undetected while performing lethal attacks from range.
2Smoke Bomb
The Smoke Bomb is arguably the most overpowered of Arno’s tools, and can be used very early in the game. On one hand, Smoke Bombs can be used during pursuits to thwart any chasing enemies and break the line of sight.
However, it is most effective when thrown at enemies beforeattacking them from stealth. Combined with the Hidden Blade, players will be able to take out groups of up to five enemies while they are lurching around in a stunned state.
1Hidden Blade
The Hidden Blade is the most iconic weapon in theAssassin’s Creedfranchise, and arguably one of the most recognizable weaponsin all of video game history. The small dagger is attached to a wrist-cuff and fast deployment mechanism that arms the blade.
This tool is primarily used for killing enemies from stealth. When used in conjunction with the Double Assassination and Double Air Assassination, it helps Arno to fulfill his true potential as a member of the Assassin’s brotherhood.
