Blood Bowl, the fantasy sports tabletop game that takes place in theWarhammeruniverse, is getting another video game release. This version, titledBlood Bowl 3, announced itself with a brand new trailer released atthis year’s Gamescom.
Blood Bowlis a spin-off of thebrutalWarhammeruniverse(not to be confused with the sci-fi versionWarhammer 40K,) a fantasy universe based around a variety of tabletop and role-playing games. The universe ofBlood Bowlis a good deal more lighthearted thanWarhammerusually is, as the people of theBlood Bowluniverse take part in a brutal yet highly entertaining combat ritual instead of the usual wars that plague the world ofWarhammer. Of course, given that the game is based on American Football, there’s still plenty of deaths and horrible injuries.

The cinematic trailer forBlood Bowl 3doesn’t give much in the way of concrete details, but it does show off a variety of the team types long-time fans may recognize. There are some of the classic teams, such as bashy orcs, the well-balanced humans, and theagile wood elves. Not to mention some of the more bizarre teams, like the teams themed around the Chaos gods, whose players can develop special abilities based around physical mutations like tentacles and extra heads.
According to IGN,Blood Bowl 3will be using the rules from the newest edition, which will arrive later this year, and feature new teams such as the Black Orcs and Imperial Nobility. When the game does release, it’ll start out with a dozen teams, along with their own arenas and cheerleaders, with more teams and features arriving via post-launch content. If you’re looking for otherWarhammergames whileBlood Bowl 3is in development, theTotal Warseries' foray into theWarhammeruniverse is another solid choice.
Meanwhile, the tabletop version ofBlood Bowlis also getting new features. Last week, the game introduced ateam focused around snotlings, the annoying little brother of the other green skin races.Blood Bowl 2players may recognize them from the Ogres team, where they act as the quicker, more fragile counterpart to the brutish but dumb ogres.
Blood Bowl 3will release early 2021 for the Nintendo Switch, PC via Steam, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
