A major selling point ofThe Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildis its emphasis on exploration. With players constantly having to traverse to new parts of the world, encountering various enemies and allies, all the while discovering unique locations, there’s always something for players to accomplish withinBreath of the Wild. Although, some of the most unique surprises are ones that the developers may not have intended for players to see.

Hidden rooms have coincided with video game development for quite some time now. As video games continued to evolve and become more complex, it required developers to create hidden back doors and test rooms to quickly access different areas of the game. For instance, one player found adebug room inBreath of the Wild, but another player managed to use one such hidden room for more nefarious purposes.

A Reddit user by the name of veroman001, with some gameplay and menu exploits, managed to access a storage shed in what appears to beHateno Village. The Redditor made other users believe the hidden shed was full of mushrooms on its own, but the Redditor had actually placed them beforehand, making others think that there was just a hidden room filled with mushrooms left by the developers.

It’s obvious now that this wasn’t an intentional decision made by the developers. Then again, plenty of other games have similar, inaccessible rooms that players have managed to locate one way or another and some of which actually do contain hidden items inside. Take for exampleBethesda’s secret room inFallout 4that contained every single piece of armor and weapon in the game.

In any case, it’s amazing that players are still able to find secrets inBreath of the Wild, despite the game releasing over four years ago. However, if tricking players into thinking a hidden room contained a mushroom stash is any indication, it’s also clear that players are managing to accomplish a lot more, despite the game’s supposed constraints. Recently, aBreath of the Wildhacker was arrested for selling modified save datacontaining upgraded stats and rare items.

It will be interesting to see what the future holds forBreath of the Wild. WhileBreath of the Wild 2was briefly shown off during E3 2021, the gaming community still doesn’t have a good indication of what to truly expect from the upcoming game. With any luck, it will manage to surpass the original in surprising new ways.
