As the first season ofCall of Duty: Warzone 2is coming to a close, Infinity Ward has given players a tease of the new map Ashika Island coming in Season 2 to house the returning Resurgence mode. The faster-pace mode has been noticeably absent since it was taken out of the mode selection whenWarzone 2went live in November 2022, along with the removal of the mapsRebirth Islandand Fortune’s Keep. However, the mode is set to make its comeback when Season 2 begins on February 15 alongside the new map for players to do battle on.Call of Duty: Warzone 2is the sequel toCall of Duty’s popular, free-to-play battle royaleCall of Duty: Warzone, launching shortly after the release of 2022’sCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The sequel saw Infinity Ward leave behind the city of Verdansk for the coastal region of Al Mazrah, pitting players against each other in a landscape which includes deserts, towns, and marshlands. It also saw the addition of DMZ,Call of Duty’s take on PvPvE where players battle AI bots and other players while completing missions for one of three factions in Al Mazrah to earn usable gear inModern Warfare 2’s multiplayer andWarzone 2, if they can survive and extract with their loot.RELATED:Call of Duty: Warzone 2 Disables Revive PistolFollowing the two-week delay to Season 2’s release, Infinity Ward has been giving players a look at the new content and changes coming toModern Warfare 2andWarzone 2. One of those additions is the returning Resurgence mode to appease players craving the smaller, faster-paced gameplay which made the mode a hit with players when it released. The studio teased the new map coming with Resurgence whenSeason 2goes live in a tweet on the officialCall of Dutyaccount, with a subsequent tweet revealing the map’s name to be Ashika Island.
The addition of Ashika Island would make it the fourth island map produced forWarzoneandWarzone 2following Rebirth Island, Fortune’s Keep, and Caldera. Rebirth Island was one of two maps produced following the release of 2020’sCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, along with Verdansk ‘84, playing on the Cold War setting and timeframe the game is set in. Fortune’s Keep andCaldera, by comparison, take influence from World War 2 given the maps were released following the release of the World War 2-era gameCall of Duty: Vanguard.
Players can argue given this trend withWarzone’s maps taking queues from that year’sCall of Dutytitle, it would not be surprising to see Ashika Island continue it with a modern day aesthetic. An argument can also be made that the map will likely be smaller to better accommodateResurgenceas the mode caps at 50 players for a match. It all remains speculation, though, until players can get a proper look at the map when it is revealed on January 31.
Call of Duty: Warzone 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
