Ever sinceCall of Duty: Warzonelaunched back in March, it has featured its standard battle royale experience alongside variations of thePlunder game mode. Plunder has proven quite popular withWarzonefans, and so many were understandably upset when Plunder was removed from the game with no prior announcement from Infinity Ward. Now Infinity Ward’s Joe Cecot has addressed Plunder being missing fromWarzone, offering an explanation as to why that decision was made.
According to Cecot,Call of Duty: Warzonewill be bringing Plunder back “soon,” so fans shouldn’t have to worry about the mode being gone forever. In regards to whyWarzoneremoved Plunder in the first place, evidently it was to allow space for the free multiplayer weekend that’s currently available in the game, along with the Warzone Rumble mode. TheCall of Duty: Modern Warfarefree multiplayer weekend should be ending tomorrow, so fans may get Plunder back within a couple of days.

Infinity Ward has been criticized quite a bit for removing popular game modes and features inWarzoneandModern Warfarewhen introducing new ones. For example, whenWarzoneaddedMost Wanted contracts, it did so at the expense of the more popular bounty contracts. Fan backlash was severe enough that Infinity Ward quickly reversed its decision and removed Most Wanted contracts from the game, having just recently added them back with some significant changes and not using them to replace regular bounties.
Considering how much fans have gotten upset over Infinity Ward removing stuff fromModern WarfareandWarzone, it’s a bit odd that it keeps happening. Some may recall whenGunfight OSPwas added toModern Warfarein place of regular Gunfight and the backlash that caused, prompting some of the world’s popular streamers to even speak out against the decision.
OnceWarzonebrings Plunder back, here’s hoping it stays in the game for good, especially sinceWarzone Rumblehasn’t been all that well-received by the community. In fact, Warzone Rumble seems to be one of the more unpopularWarzonemodes that have been introduced to date. Once it goes, it will be interesting to see if Infinity Ward changes it up like it did with the Most Wanted contracts or if it just leaves it out of the game permanently.
Call of Duty: Warzoneis out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
