Cities: Skylinesis a very user-friendly game as far as city builders go.Just like theSimCityfranchise, players spend most of their time laying out construction zones where buildings go up automatically, and most special buildings will rotate themselves to face the road.

However, there are a few exceptions to the rule. Players will need to rotate a few large buildings and construction projects manually, and buildings placed next to intersections can end up facing any of the surrounding roads. This matters because cars coming in or out of a building can end up blocking traffic. That’s why it’s importantto learn how to rotate these objectsand set them in the right orientation.

How to Rotate Static Objects

Some buildings and objects don’t need to bedirectly adjacent to a road. These include power and water buildings like pumps and windmills, and they also include roundabouts and highway junctions that act as roads themselves.

When players have selected one of these objects, they can rotate them with the click of a button. On PC, this defaults to the right mouse button. However, many of these objects will also try to snap when they can. Water pumps will automatically snapto face rivers and lakes, and highway junctions will try to face at least one nearby road. However, players can override this in some cases by using the rotation button. For objects that have to be up against water, the rotation button won’t work.

How to Rotate Roadside Objects

Most buildings inCities: Skylineshave to face a road. However, it’s important to have each building face the right road, because vehicles going in and out can bring traffic to a halt. That’s why it matters both where each building sits and which road it faces when it sits at an intersection.

Rotating these buildings is harder since the rotation button doesn’t work, but players can still control which road these buildings access. The way to do this is to point the cursor at the road the building should face and pay attention to the arrow that shows which side of the building is the front. Players may need to move the camera around to make this easier.

In general, the best road for civic buildings to access are side roads, and if both roads at an intersection are important then the building should face the road with more lanes. This will let vehicles drive in or come out without stopping the other cars and trucks driving past.

Cities: Skylinesis available now on PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One, and is coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on February 15.
