Like any game with an evolving meta based on new releases, Bungie’s free-to-play first-person shooterDestiny 2is subject to the overabundance of certain play styles based onexploits with weapons like the Telestoand improper balancing. Apparently a Bungie Community Manager who goes by dmg04 on Twitter has been keeping track of what weapons players have sent him complaints about and decided to share it earlier today.
There are 12 different weapons listed “in no particular order” on dmg04’s tweet of weapons that players have direct messaged him about being OP, annoying to face off against, or need to be nerfed. A lot of them are rare Exotic weapons, including the kinetic fusion rifle Bastion, the machine gun Heir Apparent, and the auto rifleHard Light that was just recently nerfedin a patch.

On the bright side, dmg04 says that in his opinion there is more variety in the weapons that players currently find overpowered or annoying to deal with inDestiny 2than there were in the originalDestiny. Though he says that there’s a certain amount of complaints stemming purely from players not knowing how to counter certain ways to play, he also acknowledges that the “live game environment” opens up opportunities to tune the meta where necessary — even if there’s “no guarantee” anything he listed will absolutely be nerfed.
While the day-to-day complaints and adjustments regarding individual weapons are an ongoing reality for a game likeDestiny 2, Bungie is currently looking to make much larger structural changes to the title as it enters its fourth year on the marketplace. In a recent news post, Bungie detailed its plans to make a more interconnected storyline with its new seasons that will not rely as heavily onlimited-time events perpetuating FOMO.
The developers have also been ramping up their attempts to stem cheating as a major issue inDestiny 2. The recently returned Trials of Osiris mode has had enough problems thatcheater banning has snowballed, with 656 to 2133 bans or restrictions per week in the first four weeks of Season of the Worthy.
That said, even with a bigger focus on more structural issues there still need to be continual weapon adjustments if Bungie does not want to lose its playerbase, so its good to know staff members like dmg04 are paying attention to feedback. Some of the series' weapons are very well known after all, with theDestiny’s ExoticThorn even recently appearing in a manga.
