The release ofDestiny 2’s latest expansion,The Witch Queen, has been met with largely positive feedback from the community, in particular for theVoid 3.0 reworkand Legendary campaign. However, despite Bungie’s emphasis on weapon crafting, RNG is still playing a key role in what players are using, what they can craft, and the perks available on craftable weapons. To this point, players are asking Bungie to address the seemingly low weapon drop rates inThe Witch Queen’s new Wellspring activity.

The Witch Queenis the latest expansion forDestiny 2, which sees players venture into the Throne World of Savathun, the Hive god of cunning, to learn how she gained the Light, battle her Light-powered Hive guardians, and what must be done to take it back. One of the places players face off with Hive guardians is the aforementioned Wellspring, a new six-player matchmade activity where players either attack or defend a major source of Light inside the Throne World. The activity rotates daily between attack and defend, with players able to earn two of four available Throne World weapons tied to each option and the respective boss.

It is this activity’s drop rate, as mentioned above, which is proving to be a headache for many players who are voicing their grievances online due to its impact on weapon crafting. Reddit user JustVerySleepy voiced his complaint in a thread onDestiny 2’s official subreddit, saying they ran the activity for 4 hours and were unable to get aDeepsight resonance weaponsto drop in that whole time. Several players echoed this in the comments, saying they would get that day’s particular weapon to drop but not one that was helpful to quest or crafting advancement.

For some players, this highlights how seemingly complicated Bungie made the cycle of weapon frame unlocks, crafting, and quest advancement inThe Witch Queen.

The aforementioned Deepsight resonance weapons are what players need to unlock craftable weapon frames at the Relic in the new Enclave social space and are subject to RNG drops like most other loot inDestiny 2. Once acquired, players must attune the resonance weapon, then extract crafting materials from the attuned weapon. From there, it is a rinse-and-repeat pattern of attuning and extracting until the weapon frame is unlocked in the Relic, most of which require attuning multiple resonance weapons to unlock.

What is adding to player frustration in regard to the Wellspring is how Bungie directly tied it to the investigation quest board and unlocking the new exotic glaives. The investigation quests require craftingThrone Worldweapons, four of which are earned from completing the Wellspring activity. While the weapons can drop with a degree of regularity, there is no guarantee of getting a Deepsight resonance version of said weapon to advance Relic unlocks. This means players, like JustVerySleepy, could grind Wellspring for hours and only get one resonance weapon to drop, making frame and quest advancement extremely slow.

It is now simply a question of if Bungie will adjust drop rates in theWellspringand, if they do, how quickly the team can get an adjustment out to players.

Destiny 2is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
