An anime adaptation of the popular video game franchiseDevil May Cryis coming toNetflixin the future, and the production company released a special behind-the-scenes video for it last weekend. The video is meant to be a salve for the pain caused by delays and the continued wait for the series. It not only has special new content, it also assures everyone who is patiently (or not so patiently) waiting that the anime is coming; it is just a matter of time.
The video was released by Netflix last Saturday on their official YouTube Channel. At the time of publishing, the video had already gained over 171,000 views, showing just how anticipated the project is. The first trailer for theDevil May Cryanimated series was released in September, but there has been no official release date for the full series at this time. However, the scripts were reportedly finished in November 2021, and it has already been announced that the first season will have 8 episodes focusing on Dante, Vergil, and Lady.

This new behind-the-scenes video features all-new animated scenes that were not in September’s trailer, which shows that they really have been working on the anime in the last two months, or that at the very least there is more done than simply what was shown in the announcement trailer. It also has a short interview with Adi Shankar (Castlevania), the series showrunner and executive producer. Shankar also used the video as a chance to apologize to fans for the numerous delays the project has faced so far and explain a bit why it is taking so long to create it. Plus, it shows his love for the series with a bit of cosplay fun!
Devil May Cryis an action-adventure video game series created by Hideki Kamiya, and mainly published by CAPCOM. The series has had many games, with the first releasing in 2001 and the latest,Devil May Cry 5: Special Editionreleased in 2020. The stories center around the main character, Dante, a demon hunter, with narratives loosely based on theDivine Comedyby Dante Alighieri. Each game tells a new story, some continuing from the previous title and others telling something all new.
Interestingly, thoughDevil May Crywas originally a Japanese series, this new anime project is not being made by Japan. Instead, it is being created Adi Shankar and Alex Larsen, and being animated by South Korean Studio Mir (The Legend of Korra,The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf). So while the series will be done in the style of Japanese anime, it is not actually Japanese. This new series from Netflix should not be confused with the actual Japanese animeDevil May Cry, which was released in 2007 by Madhouse.
Not being made by a Japanese studio does not have to be a hindrance for this newDevil May Cryadaptation, however. Adi Shankar is also the mind behind the hit anime series on NetflixCastlevania,which was extremely successful.Castlevaniawas also based on a Japanese video game series of the same name, and was animated in the style of Japanese anime by a non-Japanese team. It is no secret that Shankar is hoping for the same success withDevil May Cry, as he has already announced it will have multiple seasons, and be the latest entry in his “bootleg multiverse,” alongsideCastlevania.
