BehindDiablo 4’s massive open world and epic new story lies the one thing that made the series so titanic in the first place: the never-ending hunt for good loot. The only thing better than slaying demons is finding a shiny new Legendary item with powerful effects that can crank a build-up to maximum overdrive.

As players go on their crusade to save Sanctuary from the Daughter of Hatred, they’ll stumble upon countless pieces of gear—some will be worth keeping, but most will not. Players who want to keep up with the game’s escalating challenges, they’ll need the best weapons and armor they can find. Here’s the best way to form loot as of the launch version ofDiablo 4thatdoes not rely on bugs and exploits.

The Ancient Syphon event during a Helltide in Diablo 4

Updated July 17, 2025 by Marc Santos:Diablo 4 has changed a lot since it first went live, and with the release of the Vessel of Hatred expansion, players can expect even more ways to farm loot efficiently. While the previous main method of farming good gear still applies (and is expected to apply even in future seasons), we’ve updated this guide to include more places where players can grind for all the gear they’ll ever need.

Helltides - Legendary and Unique Item Farm in Diablo 4

In a game this massive, one or several loot-farming exploits are bound to pop up. However, sinceDiablo 4is a live service title, fans can expect such exploits to get patched out in an emergency hotfix if Blizzard finds them too game-breaking. With that said, the following farming method will not rely on such things and instead focus on farming the way the developers intended.

The best way to farm high-quality items inDiablo 4is togrind Public Events in Helltide areas on the highest difficulty you can play in. Not only do the chests from these events have a high chance of dropping Legendaries, but they also drop Obols and Aberrant Cinders, both of which are used toacquire even more items inDiablo 4.

A Greater Radiant Chest in Diablo 4

Events seem to occur more frequently in Helltide areas, and they restart fairly quickly too. There will be instances where a new event will start in the same spot in less than a minute since the last one was finished. Players are recommended to stick around or teleport back to town for a bit before returning to the battlefield. By the time they return, a new event should already be up.

Grinding events is an extremely fast way toget Murmuring Obolsand Cinders. The former is spent onCuriosity vendors, while the latter is used toopen Tortured Gift chestsaround Helltide areas. Both of these (and the Greater Radiant Chests from events) have a chance of giving players Legendary and Unique items, though the drop rate for Uniques appears to be extremely low from Helltides.

In case a Public Event stops reappearing in one spot, move on to a different one. Mark one of the spots on the map or make a mental note of where they are and just keep patrolling both zones until an event shows up.

If a zone on the map appears blood-soaked, it means that a Helltide is currently active in that area. If a Helltide is in a region with active Grim Whisper bounties, then players should start farming there immediately to maximize the loot they get.

Getting loot in the Infernal Hordes mode from the Diablo 4 Season 5

Kurast Undercity

The Undercity of Kurast is a new type of dungeon that lets players target farm loot. You’ll unlock this new activity by progressing throughVessel of Hatred’smain campaign, and you can enter it at any time in Kurast Bazaar.

This is arguably the new best way to get loot in the game. Before you enter, you canuse Tributes and Bargainsto customize what loot drops at the end of the activity. These can even give you a chance to earn those coveted Mythic items, if you’re lucky enough to get the right Tributes.

Infernal Hordes

Once you reach Torment 1, you’ll gain access to Infernal Hordes, a wave-based survival mode that’s amazing for loot farming. Here, you’ll have to fight waves of demons in hopes of beating a boss at the end. As a reward, you’ll be able to open chests containing gear, materials, or Gold.

The Pit

The Pit of Artificers is an endgame time-based dungeon activity where players get to slaughter as many demons as they want. It’s also a decent source ofloot and materials. As ofVessel of Hatred, players canunlock The Pit inDiablo 4once they reach level 60.

The goal here is to defeat a boss, which you can summon by killing enough monsters to fill up a bar. ForDiablo 3veterans, this is basically a revamped version of Nephalem Rifts. Completing a run rewards you with loot as well as opportunities to upgrade your Paragon Glyphs. The Pit is mostly forpushing builds and leveling Glyphs, but you can still get useful stuff from it once you beat the boss at the end.
