Following Sony’s “Future of Gaming” livestream last month, Microsoft is preparing to show offHalo Infinitegameplay at an Xbox Series X eventon July 23. The promise of a larger showcase for the next-generation console’s offerings has fans excited to hear more about a number of announced games, however VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb suggests anyone hoping to hear about FromSoftware’sElden Ringshould temper their expectations.

Earlier this week, Xbox HeadPhil Spencer made many believeElden Ringnews was comingbecause of comments that Xbox is working on building stronger relationships with Japanese game developers, directly referencingElden Ring’s announcement at E3 2019. Grubb took to Twitter today with an apprehensive reaction to various news sites reporting on this potential showcase saying, “There’s a better chance of aBakuganthanElden Ringon Thursday.”

This is in reference to theannouncement ofBakugan: Champions of Vestroiafor Switchon July 10, a now-infamous example of social media heightening its expectations for what many saw as a mediocre reveal. Originally, Nintendo had promised a game from a new licensed IP being developed by WayForward to coincide with itsPaper Mario: The Origami KingTreehouse livestream, but later had to confirm it was not a Nintendo property after titles likeWario Landbegan trending on Twitter.

While this comment by Grubb is not a guarantee thatElden Ringwill not appear at the Xbox Series X event, it is safe to assume his insight holds water in the discussion. FromSoftware fans who are looking forward to hearing more about the developer’s crossover with George R. R. Martin may be disappointed, especially as rumors thattrademark troubles may be behind the lack ofElden Ringnews, but Microsoft’s event should still offer a lot to look forward to.

In the lead-up to Thursday’s event, the Xbox Series X has received attention through other avenues as well. The Coalition showed offGears 5on the Xbox Series Xduring the Inside Unreal livestream last week, and PS5 exclusive titles like Lucid Games’Destruction AllStarshave similarly been showing off the power of next-generation consoles.

Even ifElden Ringdoes not appear on Thursday, more news will have to be shared about the long-anticipated action RPG eventually. In the meantime, FromSoftware fans can also look forward to the remake ofDemon’s Soulscoming to PlayStation 5.

Elden Ringis in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
