Even the very first iteration of the hero’s titular armored suit came packed with an array of weapons and makeshift gadgets, and it’s an arsenal that’s only grown more impressive with age. From powerful repulsor blasts to anti-tank missiles to wrist-mounted lasers to a devastating Unibeam,Iron Man’s suitis often decked out with a full set of high-tech weaponry.

That being said, Iron Man’s most defining skill isn’t his arsenal of advanced weapons, but his ability to fly, and it’s a feature that EA Motive really needs to nail with its upcomingIron Mangame. Over the last few years, various games have tried to capture an Iron Man-like flight system, and BioWare’sAnthemwas one of the most successful. If EA Motive could implementAnthem’s flight system and improve upon it, its Iron Man game would already be starting in a great place, and all it would need are a few villains to make proper use of the system.

Iron Man’s Flight Mechanics Pave The Way for Some Exciting Boss Fights

Iron Man Has No Shortage of Flying Foes

Just like many other popular superheroes, a good portion of Iron Man’s rogues' gallery revolves around villains with a very similar moveset to his own. For instance, the vast majority ofIron Man’s most popular villainsare often equipped with their own set of high-tech armor, usually granting them flight. There’s no shortage of flying villains that EA Motive’s Iron Man game could borrow, but the Stanes are a natural fit.

Introduced early on in Iron Man’s comic career, Obadiah Stane is the head of Stane Industries, a major rival of Stark’s own business enterprise. Eventually, Stane and Stark’s rivalry leads to the two men suiting up as their armored alter-egos, and duking it out asIron Man and the Iron Monger. While Obadiah Stane refuses to accept defeat at Stark’s hands and instead chooses to take his own life, his son, Ezekiel Stane eventually takes on the Iron Monger mantle.

Crimson Dynamo is another classic Iron Man villain that would pave the way for a satisfying flight-focusedboss fight in EA Motive’s Iron Man game, as would Titanium Man, Firepower, Mauler, and even Whiplash if Motive wanted to take inspiration from the character’s more recent appearances. These villains would essentially act as mirror fights for the player, using similar weapons and abilities to Iron Man.

Fin Fang Foom Could Be The Epitome of Iron Man’s Flying Bosses

But if EA Motive really wanted to highlightIron Man’s flight system, then a boss fight against Fin Fang Foom could be the perfect option. An alien that resembles a gigantic green dragon, Fin Fang Foom would act as an ultimate test of the player’s flight skills, requiring them to maneuver around the huge beast as it launches an array of arena-sized attacks and powerful AoE moves. Players would need to avoid these attacks and position themselves behind Fin Fang Foom quickly, where they’d be able to fire at a series of weak points.

Eidos Montreal’s recentMarvel’sGuardians of the Galaxygamefeatured a boss fight against Fin Fang Foom, which lays some nice groundwork for EA Motive’s Iron Man. But whileGuardians' Fin Fang Foom fight got the beast’s giant scale right, Iron Man’s hypothetical fight against the Makluan would need to incorporate more verticality.
