Since its reveal, Capcom’s upcomingExoprimalhas been described by many as “Dino CrisismeetsAnthem.” Announced in March, this game is a multiplayer co-op shooter set in a dystopian future where swarms of dinosaurs may randomly spill onto Earth through mysterious portals. The reveal trailer forExoprimaleven features a scene where an android named Ivy hosts a weather report-styled segment that announces impending dinosaur outbreaks. However, not all hope is lost as humanity’s greatest heroes are on the case: exosuit pilots.

Aside from it beinga dinosaur-fighting gamethat’s multiplayer-focused, Capcom hasn’t revealed much information outside its vague 2023 release window and Dino Survival mode - a 5v5 challenge where teams compete to complete missions while holding back a ruthless and continual dino horde. What is known are some characters inExoprimal(although they’re currently unnamed) and the differentAnthem-like exosuits available for players to choose from.

Zephyr’s Role In Exoprimal

The game’s mechas-versus-dinosaurs premise, showinghow differentExoprimalis fromDino Crisis, is powered by exosuits. In general, the exosuits found inExoprimalare divided into three main classes: the Assault class which plays the DPS role within a team, the Tank class which absorbs and deals heavy damage, and the Support class which is responsible for healing, buffs, and debuffs. Within each class there are a number of exosuits attached, although there have only been four announced thus far. The Assault class of exosuits ranges between close-, medium-, and long-range attacks, and currently consists of the Deadeye exosuit and the Zephyr exosuit. The Zephyr exosuit in particular does not sound like it will be easy to use.

Exoprimal’s website states that the Zephyr is a melee-focused, close-combat exosuit with light armor, putting players right where the dinosaur-killing action is. Comparisons could be drawn to the various assassin-class DPS jobs that are prevalent in MMOs, in which players throw out quick attacks to rack up damage on an enemy. The Zephyr’s weapons are a pair of laser-like blades attached to its arms called “tonfa,” which can cut through the thick-skinned dinosaurs at speed. Unlike the otherAssault class exosuit Deadeye, the Zephyr looks to be a solid choice for those who are more comfortable getting into the heat of the action alongside the Tank class Roadblock exosuit.

TheExoprimalreveal traileralso showed the Zephyr performing a sort of uppercut and shove move, which could be related to its special ability - though what exactly that may be is currently unclear. According to the trailer, each exosuit has their own set of unique abilities that are meant to turn the tide against an unrelenting dinosaur horde. There have been no specific details about what the abilities are, what kind of effects they inflict, nor how many abilities each exosuit has.

Since its announcement at the PlayStation State of Play event, there hasn’t been a lot of information from Capcom regarding its upcoming dinosaur shooter. The publisher has only released some information on the official website, as well as the two-and-a-half minute trailer to feed players' imaginations. Recently, Capcom confirmed on Twitter thatmore details onExoprimalwill be coming this summer, though a date was not mentioned. Perhaps fans will hear more about it during this year’s Summer Game Fest.

Exoprimalis set to release in 2023 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
