Final Destination6is officially moving forward, as announced by Warner Bros. Discovery at CinemaCon 2023.

It’s been 23 years since the originalFinal Destinationwas released in 2000, with its combination ofhorrificfates, ample gore, and violent cause and effect that may have permanently burned anxiety into the brains of Gen X-ers and Millennials alike. The first film stars Devon Sawa as a young man who glimpses the horrific crash of a plane about to take off and circumvents fate only to have death pursue him and other survivors through a series of horrific accidents. The popular film was followed by fourmoreFinal Destinationsequels, all with similar plots involving the survivors of deadly incidents, including a rollercoaster tragedy and a bridge collapse. Survivors must race against the consequences of disrupting the natural order of life and death while figuring out how to escape them. The last film in the franchise,Final Destination 5, was released in 2011.

Discussing Filmrecently posted on Twitter thatFinal Destination 6is finally moving forwardunder the direction of Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein (Freaks). Production plans for the film are already underway at Warner Bros. with a story treatment written by recentSpider-Mantrilogy director Jon Watts, the producer ofFinal Destination 6. While the project is still in early development, with plot details yet to be revealed, many fans are excited to see a new installment of a somewhat popular franchise.

Though the approach usually follows a predictable format, with better and lesser results depending on the sequel, the familiarity of the formula has often been one of its greatest audience attractors. While not all the films did as well at the box office as the first one with its novel concept, each subsequentFinal Destinationfilm was steadily more violentand gore-filled than the last. With many characters often recurring in subsequent sequels, usually to be eventually killed off, it will be interesting to see which survivors audiences might get a glimpse of in the new film. The franchise has often starred up-and-coming young horror actors who eventually went on to bigger things, including Seann William Scott and Ali Larter from the first film and sometimes scream queen Mary Elizabeth WinsteadfromFinal Destination 3.
