Square Enix has recently announced the winners for its much-anticipatedFinal Fantasy 14Hairstyle Design Contest 2023, which received a huge number of entries. First released in December 2010, the MMORPG received a less-than-ideal response from fans, who cited a number of issues with the gameplay and the user interface.Final Fantasy 14was ultimately shelved and caused the developers to go back to the drawing board, eventually coming up with a reboot, titledFinal Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn. To celebrate the game’s tenth anniversary, Square Enix announced theFinal Fantasy 14Hairstyle Design Contest in July 2023, asking players to come up with custom hairstyles they would like to see in the game and welcoming entries from fans worldwide until the August 21 deadline. Thousands of gamers sent in their entries, which were so intriguing thatSquare Enix decided to choose 40 winnersinstead of one or two. All the winners receive a pair of Fat Cat Earrings for their characters.
This isn’t the first time Square Enix has held the contest. Back in 2015, it conducted a similar competition in which the winners got their hairstyle implemented inPatch 3.1 ofFinal Fantasy 14:Heavenswardand also received noble barding for their characters. Only one winner each was announced from the male and female hairstyle design categories. In this year’s contest, the game developer also announced that if an entry is found to be outstanding, the hairstyle may make its way into the game.
