Summary
Players of the critically acclaimed MMORPGFinal Fantasy 14may have discovered the next playable race. As theupcoming expansion forFinal Fantasy 14Dawntrail was announced at the last FanFest, many have begun to speculate on many aspects of the next adventure for everyone’s Warrior of Light. Most of these speculations have been about the next jobs people will be able to play, what the new story will bring to the world, and what the next playable race might be.
When players begin their adventure inFinal Fantasy 14, they are given the option to create their character and choose which race they will play. As of the last expansion, there are eight playable races, from the basic Hyurs to the gargantuan Hrothgars, but only recently didEndwalker add male Vierasas an option. However, the Hrothgars, a hulking race of lion-people, have been left with only the option to play as men, with a promise that females will come at some time.
However, with the recent patch 6.5, it seems that time will be soon. The latest update has not only givenFinal Fantasy 14players the option to play solothrough nearly all of its main content, but also the end to the story that started in 6.1. This ending has also brought hints about the next story, one of these being the gleaner Erenville returning to Sharlayan from a “homecoming” he spoke of in the past, alongside an unfamiliar pair of legs following him off the boat. Datamining the model shows that they are only a pair of legs with no body. Yet, upon inspection of the legs, there are a few details that point to this character possibly being a female Hrothgar.
First is that the legs seem to have some fur texture on them, and second, that there is a missing spot in the back of the pants where a hole for a tail would be. TheFinal Fantasy 14dataminer also found that the model’s skeleton shows intentional tail animations. While it’s not an official confirmation, many in the comments are still showing their excitement that female Hrothgars may be coming toFinal Fantasy 14.
With the next FanFest in London coming up very soon, there is sure to be more information about the next expansion inFinal Fantasy 14and perhaps more hints as to who this mystery character is. They are sure to be shown in the conclusion to Endwalker’s patches, 6.55, so it is best to stick around to learn what is to come in Dawntrail. If it is female Hrothgars, players should hope they don’t suffer some of theproblemsFinal Fantasy 14Hrothgar male players had.
Final Fantasy 14is available now for PC, PS4, and PS5, with an Xbox Series X/S version launching in Spring 2024.
