In addition to the announcement of theDawntrailexpansion, the critically acclaimed MMORPG revealed thatFinal Fantasy 14was coming to Xbox Series X|Sat last year’s inaugural Fan Festival. Phil Spencer, head of Xbox, even made a guest appearance on stage to announce the big news.

Now, the open beta forFinal Fantasy 14on Xbox Series X|S has officially begun. New fans can follow theofficial guidelines posted byFF14to install the expansive free trial on the console right now, but existing players wishing to switch to Xbox will have to wait until the full launch due to an account-linking requirement. The full platform release will commence immediately after the beta’s conclusion, and all characters and data from it will be preserved, so in many ways, theFinal Fantasy 14Xbox open beta can be considered a soft launch for new players.

Final Fantasy 14 Xbox Series X|S Beta is Live

The Xbox Series X/S open beta includesthe free trial ofFinal Fantasy 14, which was recently extended to include the Stormblood expansion. This gives fans access to most playable races and jobs, as well as content fromA Realm Rebornand the first two expansion packs. Once the full game launches, Xbox players will need a Game Pass subscription, but can otherwise continue to use the free trial for as long as they want, though they will need to purchaseFinal Fantasy 14and a subscription in order to access content fromShadowbringers,Endwalker, andDawntrail.

In addition to the normal restrictions on theFinal Fantasy 14free trial, Xbox beta players won’t be able to make purchases from the cash shop. Additionally, fans can’t participate in certain in-game activities that require the full game, such as thereturningFinal Fantasy 15collaborationor Ultimate raids.

Fans should expect the open beta to continue for a few months, with the full Xbox Series X/S version planned for Spring. Players should have several months tocatch up on theFF14story beforeDawntrail’s releasein the summer.
