Summary

Starting on September 29,Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisisplayers will be able to play as a younger, adolescent version of Sephiroth once the game is updated to version 1.1.0. The announcement came just weeks after the game’s release on mobile platforms, and just days after Square Enix confirmed thatFinal Fantasy 7: Ever Crisiswould be ported to PCin the future.

As one of themost iconic villains in video game history, the legacy of Sephiroth is intrinsically linked to the legacy of theFinal Fantasy 7anthology. As a legendary SOLDIER who snapped after discovering his origins, Sephiroth was made to be a powerhouse in combat from the very start. After Sephiroth’s fall from grace in the Nibelheim incident, his presumed death was proven to be greatly exaggerated, as he and Jenova wreaked havoc throughout the story ofFinal Fantasy 7. However, players will soon get to see a new side of Sephiroth as part of a story set years before Nibelheim was torched.

Following maintenance forFinal Fantasy 7: Ever Crisisversion 1.1.0, players will be able to play as a young Sephiroth in the game. On social media, Square Enix provided some new character art for the teenage Sephiroth, who will join Glenn and his SOLDIER units on a mission through enemy territory in the story ofFinal Fantasy 7: The First Soldier. Though his iconic silver hair is much shorter, and he wields a much shorter katana compared to the Masamune, the young Sephiroth will still have access to potent magic attacks and can cut foes down to size in combat.

While the story of the One-Winged Angel will be told over time, players who are new toFinal Fantasy 7: Ever Crisiswill have to progress through other stories in order to access Sephiroth’s tale inThe First Soldier. At the time of writing, story chapters from the originalFinal Fantasy 7,The First Soldier, andCrisis Coreare accessible, but those stories are incomplete and will be fully fleshed out over time. Players will eventually be able to access stories from other games in the anthology such asBefore Crisis,Advent Children, andDirge of Cerberus. It remains to be seen how long Square Enix will take to bring these stories toEver Crisis.

ThoughFinal Fantasy 7: Ever Crisisis a gacha game, the fact that characters can be easily accessed by playing through each story makes it one ofthe best gacha games for newcomersto try. With Sephiroth’s imminent arrival, only time will tell how many more downloads the game will get.

Final Fantasy 7: Ever Crisisis available now for Android and iOS, with a PC version in development.
