The internet has been abuzz with fans and newcomers alike taking on Square Enix’sFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, a from-the-ground-up reimagining of the first section from the 1997 PlayStation classic in a long-running series of fantasy JRPGs. Though the new game haschanged some major things about the original, one thing it stays true to is protagonist Cloud Strife’s iconic Buster Sword. The developers even go so far as to poke fun at how huge it is in-game.

In the lead-up to the release of theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, a Japanese YouTube channel called Crafty Transformer released a video showing how fans of the game could create their own Buster Sword made entirely out of cardboard. The three-minute video shows how to make the sword using DIY templates available through a Google Drive folder in its description, and naturally spends a good amount of time out in nature flaunting its built-in capability to be spun around.

The project is undoubtedly impressive, and fits in well with a bevy of other cardboard DIY creations posted to the channel since it was created in 2017, including iconic objects from anime like aYu-Gi-Oh!Duel Disk and weapons from various other video game franchises likeMonster Hunter. However some of the appeal is lost in translation, as text instructions are given through subtitles on the video that currently can only be read in Japanese.

Cloud’s Buster Sword is not the only object fromFinal Fantasy 7that has been made out of cardboard since the game’s remake was released earlier this month. The fast food chainArby’s recreated the protagonist’s motorcycleout of cardboard right around the remake’s launch. Though it was a smaller-scale model using sandwich boxes rather than anything big enough to use like a real vehicle.

WhileCloud actually has six weaponsto choose from in theFinal Fantasy 7 Remake, none are anywhere near as iconic as the Buster Sword. Not only is it a symbol ofFinal Fantasy 7as a whole, but it has been brought over to other Square Enix projects likeKingdom Heartsand makes an appearance as Cloud’s weapon in bothSuper Smash Bros. 4andUltimate.

The game’s remake may have done away withthe original’s turn-based combat system, but if anything the newer realtime, high-octane fighting has made Cloud’s giant weapon that much cooler. Thanks to Crafty Transformer, now fans and cosplayers can have a Buster Sword for themselves.
