Fire Emblem Heroesfeatures over 1,000 playable characters that players can collect through gacha mechanics using in-game currency called Orbs. Inevitably in a gacha game, players will obtain many duplicate copies of units while assembling their roster.

Similar to other gacha games,Fire Emblem Heroesallows players to combine duplicate units to make a Hero stronger through the Merge Allies feature. This guide will explain how Merge Allies works and the rules that apply.

How to Merge Allies in Fire Emblem Heroes

Players can access the Merge Allies feature under the Ally Growth section in the Allies tab. To use it, tap the emptyEnhanceslot and select the Hero that will gain the merge enhancement. Then, tap the emptyLoseslot to select the duplicate Hero (source unit) that will be merged into the former. Note that duplicate Heroes in the Lose slot will be lost permanently after the Merge Allies feature is used.

Combining duplicate Heroes using the Merge Allies feature can grant Skill Points (SP) and extra stats. However, not all merges will result in a stat gain, as it will depend on the rarities being used in the process. Each time a Hero is enhanced by a duplicate of the same rarity, they gain a merge level, indicated by the plus sign next to their regular level, up to a maximum of +10. Here are the basic rules for merging allies:

In addition to these basic rules, merging allies will let the Hero hold on to, or pass onall inherited skills, refined weapons, conferred blessings, and Dragonflower enhancements. When it comes toDragonflower enhancements, only the highest enhancement level of the two is kept.

When a Herogoes through Unlock Potential, all merge levels will be lost. For example, a 4-Star+10 unit will lose all the stats from the +10 merge level once it is upgraded to a 5-Star unit.

The amount of SP gained during merges will depend on the rarity and the merge level of the unit that is being fed into the enhancement. For example, a source 4-Star+3 unit will pass on 320 SP (80 x 4) due to it essentially being four units' worth of SP. Any personal SP or regular levels possessed by the source unit will be lost upon the merge.

If the targeted enhancement unit has the maximum Skill Points (9999), they will need to spend some before a source unit can be merged in.

The stats gained from same-rarity merges will depend on their level 1 raw stats at 5-Star rarity (without skills). Thefirst mergewill increase the two highest level 1 raw stats and cancel out the Flaw, if there is any, of the Hero. If the Hero possesses neutral stats (no Asset and Flaw), then the three highest level 1 raw stats will gain an additional point each. Subsequent merges will increase the next two highest stats by a point each until all stats have been increased once, at which point the process will repeat, starting back at the highest stat. If there are raw stats tied at level 1, it will default to the priority order of HP > Atk > Spd > Def > Res.

HP is the highest level 1 raw stat for all Heroes in the game.

Using a neutral 5-Star Tempest King Joshua (pictured above) as an example, his level 1 raw stats by order of highest to lowest are: HP (18), Spd (9), Def (8), Atk (7), Res (6).

Repeat +2 step until merge level +10.

A 4-Star+10 unit will often have higher stats than a non-merged 5-Star unit, making them a decent cheap option for obtaining strong units.
