The mainline games featuring Nintendo’s mascot Mario consist of completing worlds with numerous levels filled with enemies to stomp and puzzles to solve. The levels are also scattered with secret areas waiting to be discovered and many valuable items to collect such as stars, shinies, stamps, or moons. Joey tweeted how proud he was of himself along with an image detailing how long it took him to play each game. The amount of stars, shinies, and moons he collected in each game tallies up to 2,405, where the name of the speedrun originates. He played all nine mainline 3DSuper Mariogames, including two with one of thecoolest gravity mechanics in games:Super Mario GalaxyandSuper Mario Galaxy 2.
Joey previously completed other speedruns and is well known in the speedrunning community for his 3D Mario 1862 speedrun. Joey stated in a comment in his tweet that he had been preparing for the 3D Mario 2405 speedrun ever since his previous speedrun nearly four years ago.
While people in the community congratulated him on his achievement, some stated how they were concerned for his health. There areways gaming can be beneficial to a person’s health, but some people could not see how the speedrunner losing nearly two days of sleep could possibly be healthy. “There’s a reason why sleep breaks are allowed in extremely long speedruns,” said one user. Joey stated after successfully completing his goal that he will prioritize sleeping.
There arerumors that four newSuper Mariogames are on the way. The possible addition of newSuper Mariogames may motivate Kingj0444 to commit to another speedrun. Joey’s 3D Mario 2405 speedrun is available to watch on his Twitch channel.
