Genshin Impacttheories suggest unified civilizations existed at some point, and players have begun to point out some similarities between Dragonspine and Sumeru that may add credence to fan theories. The latest update forGenshin Impactexpanded Sumeru with a new desert region, but its mainline forest region still holds secrets to be discovered.
Reddit user u/Usual_Presentation53 shared an image comparing two nearly identical ruins found inGenshin Impact’sDragonspine and Sumeru regions. The ruins contain the same symbol that’s typically associated with ancient civilizations such as Khaenri’ah and Celestia. The architecture suggests two unified civilizations existed in Teyvat thousands of years before the Traveler and Paimon’s journey began. Although exact names for the civilizations have not been determined, players within the community began to share their own thoughts based on in-game text and lore.

According to users commenting under u/Usual_Presentation53’s post,Genshin Impactestablished lore about an advanced nation existing before the Archon War through its numerous updates. The Dragonspine and Sumeru ruins shown may be from ancient nations that have long since faded from history. The Archon War finished roughly 2,000 years ago withinthe world ofGenshin Impact, but remnants of the war persist in the current era. Two unified civilizations may have existed in the ages before the Archon War, so some ruins found throughout Teyvat may be older than originally thought by players. Evidence of these differing civilizations exists in areas such as Enkanomiya, the Chasm, and Tsurumi Island.
Genshin Impact’slore suggests these old civilizations fought for some sort of “throne,” and the civilizations perished in the ancient wars for power. According to Dainsleif, Khaenri’ah was built on the ruins of an important ancient city. However, the character did not elaborate further on the details of Khaenri’ah’s founding. The ancient city that was laid to ruin is speculated to be older than Celestia as players know it, but many details regarding Celestia itself are shrouded in mystery.
The Traveler’s journey will bring important discoveries to light including the civilizations predating Khaenri’ah and the true nature of Paimon. The current theories circulating withintheGenshin Impactcommunityappear to be consistent with what’s currently known in the game. Hopefully, HoYoverse will give insight into the importance of these civilizations, the Archons, and more as updates continue to roll out.
