Fans ofGod of War, especially of the latest 2018 release, will be happy to know that more content is on its way and the Creative Director is reportedlyhard at work on future writing. However, this will be coming in the form of a book, as opposed to a newGod of Wargame for players to get lost in and revel over like they did in the most recent entry in the long running series.

The book, titledGod of War: Lore and Legends, is available now for pre-order on Amazon and promises to tell the story of the Norse mythology inspired game. Produced by Sony and Santa Monica Studios, the book comes from experienced guide writer Rick Barba, in collaboration withCreative Director Cory Barlog.

The book chronicles the adventure of Atreus as he and his father Kratos travel through the Nine Realms on their quest to spread his mother’s ashes, as was her final request. As opposed to viewing the story from the perspective of Kratos, as theGod of Wargame does, the book will be from Atreus' viewpoint, giving his personal take on the events of their adventure. This could lead to some fairly interesting insights, such as a closer look atAtreus' relationship with Faye, his mother who acts as a stand-in for Laufey of Norse myths.

Without a copy to flip through at the moment, it’s hard to say exactly what is held within the book. That being said, there are some clues within the game which might give an idea of how the book will read, considering how the in-game journal and lore codex is also written from Atreus' point of view. This likely means thatGod of War: Lore and Legendswill be closer to a piece of research material, listing all of theNorse myths and legendsthat Atreus encounters throughout the story, rather than a novelization of the game.

Lore journal or not,God of War: Lore and Legendsis a must have forGod of Warfans looking to get the most out of the games until the next sequel arrives. With any luck,God of War 2will be on shelves soon, although most evidence points to aPS5 release over PS4, especially when considering when the Next-Gen system releases. Until then, players can cozy up with this new book by the fire and get themselves prepared for the future of the series by returning to the rebooted roots as never before seen.

God of Waris available now for PS4.

God of War: Lore and Legendsreleases on August 4th, 2020, onAmazon.
