God of War: Ragnarokis a very highly anticipated game, with fans around the world eager to get a chance to play through what will be the final title in theGod of WarNorse Saga. The previous title has set upGod of War: Ragnarokas a great finale with legendary characters like Thor and Odin confirmed and theories circulating the internet discussing how Kratos and Atreus will be able to defeat the remaining Aesir. One of the most popular theories is that Fenrir, the wolf that swallows and kills Odin during the events of Ragnarok, will assist fans as they take the fight to Asgard.
Unfortunately for all the fans hoping that Fenrir will feature inGod of War: Ragnarok, there is one major detail from the reveal of Tyr that likely means that the great wolf will not be in the upcoming title. Both Tyr and Fenrir were major figures in the events of Ragnarok and their presence during these events was heavily intertwined. Following this reveal, many fans now wonder how the game will handle the death of Odin, andwhat Kratos and Atreus will need to do to defeat the King of Gods.

Why God of War: Ragnarok May Not Feature Fenrir
Prior to the events of Ragnarok, Fenrir was tricked by the Gods and bound by unbreakable chains and in anger swallowed one of Tyr’s hands. So, after seeing the depiction of Tyr in theGod of War: Ragnarokreveal trailer, it is easy to ascertain that Fenrir does not yet exist in this Universe. Further, Fenrir is one of three children of Loki and Angrboda, and one of his siblings, Jormungandr, has already featured in the 2018’sGod of War. This likely means that Fenrir in the games will not be the child of Loki and Angrboda, andsince Tyr still has both his arms, Fenrir may not even existin the game’s universe yet.
In the same way that Jormungandr exists in the game’s universe, however, it could make sense that Fenrir also exists and has not yet been trapped. However, the games greatly divert from the typical events that are represented in Norse Mythology. Just like in the Greek Saga,Kratos will likely be the one that kills Odinand having Fenrir take out the character that will be deemed this saga’s Zeus, will be both disappointing and anti-climactic. So while Fenrir played a very important role in the events of Rangarok, he may not feature inGod of War: Ragnarok.
How God of War: Ragnarok Could Introduce Fenrir
Kratos and Atreus will need a lot more help to defeat Thor and Odin. While Tyr may be one of these characters, the introduction of Angrboda could lead to the inclusion of Fenrir in the games.Angrboda is not only a major reveal due to her relationship with Loki, but also because she could be proof that some giants may still be alive. Angrboda could help Atreus understand his Jotun powers, and together, the pair may create Fenrir using some form of magic to assist them as they plan to attack Odin.
There are also many understandings of the Prose Edda, which describes the events of Ragnarok, and one of these is that Fenrir split himself into the two great hounds that have already featured in the game. In this theory, Fenrir splits into Skoll and Hati, the wolves that chase the sun and moon, an event that marks the start of Ragnarok, and something that Atreus has already explained in 2018’sGod of War. In the game, following the wolves swallowing the sun and the moon, they may merge back together andrelease Fenrir onto Asgard to assist Kratos and even form a bond with Atreus.

What Could The Exclusion of Fenrir Mean?
It is obvious that Fenrir is an important figure in the events of Ragnarok and is likely the only being that could rival Odin, which leaves fans wondering how Kratos will be able to take on the King of Gods. While Kratos has consistently shown that he is more than capable of defeating gods, he has always needed something special to take on some heavy hitters, like the Blade of Olympus that killed Zeus. So, since it is likely that Fenrir will not be in the game,Kratos will need to find a weapon that could kill Odinor a power that could help him weaken the Norse God.
There are many legendary Norse weapons that Kratos could use to assist with this along with the help of his potential allies Tyr and Angrboda. Kratos may need to use one of the weapons of the remaining Norse gods to slay Odin, however,another outcome is that Kratos may spare Odin. In the first game, Kratos warns Atreus that killing a god is never a good thing, and this could lead to a symbolic ending forGod of War’sNorse Saga.
WithGod of War: Ragnarokset to end the Norse Saga, fans eagerly await the answers to all the questions they have. While it is more likely that Kratos will be the one who kills Odin, there is room for the game to include events from the Prose Edda and have Fenrir feature in the game. Whatever the case may be,God of War: Ragnarokwill continue to be eagerly awaited by fans andgiven the reputation ofGod of War, is likely to be yet another hit from Santa Monica Studio.
