After the massive success of its predecessor,Grand Theft Auto 6is already a highly anticipated game. With its release date potentially more than 2 years away, many fans have been clamoring for any news concerningGrand Theft Auto 6.
Unfortunately for these fans, news about the game has mostly been confined to rumors and hearsay. Regardless, fans are taking whatever rumors they can find, such as a rumor thatGTA 6will receive a trailer this year. Whether each new rumor is true or false remains to be confirmed by Rockstar, who has been mostly silent on the game since the game was revealed.

However, theGrand Theft Auto 6active development announcementrevealed that the game was “far along” in its development cycle, giving fans hope they may see more news on the title in the near future. To that end, recently a Reddit user named CoryLVV created a post talking about a patent created by Take-Two that seems to point towards the possibility of an unbelievably large map inGrand Theft Auto 6.
As CoryLVV states, the patent seems to be for an in-game system that would swap players from one session to another without having to experience one ofGrand Theft Auto’s dreaded loading screens, which have been known to last for a very long time. Along with reducing loading times significantly, the patent also implies that there will be massive areas for players to explore considering they’ll need to swap between zones. This rumor could potentially lead toGTA 6being another immigrant story, as multiple massive areas could coincide with multiple states or even countries for players to explore.
Though the news of a massive area is good, other Reddit users feared the implications that came with potentially dozens of players existing over multiple interlinked areas. Already,Grand Theft Auto 5experiences griefing issues, with players using the game’s massive arsenal of weapons and vehicles to kill players on a whim. With the addition of multiple zones and the opportunity for a massive amount of players coexisting, griefing complaints could reach an all-time high.
Although griefing could be an issue for the game, the idea of an open world even larger thanGrand Theft Auto5’sis exciting. Tons of content already exists in the game at its current size, with tons of DLC being added over time likeGrand Theft Auto 5’s Contract DLC. If CoryLVV’s hunches are correct and the patent turns out to be forGrand Theft Auto 6, the opportunities for content could be near-endless.
