Helldivers 2is the long-awaited sequel to the 2015 Indie hitHelldivers, created by developer Arrowhead Games Studio. The original release was a tough and punishing top-down twin-stick shooter that allowed players to band together in cooperative gameplay to protect the citizens of Super Earth from galactic threats. Players could join one another and undergo a variety of missions that transported them to hostile planets, forcing them to complete various missions while contending with aliens, robots, and other hostile creatures. It offered a fun gameplay loop that really ramped up the difficulty in later missions, with a friendly-fire mechanic and all sorts of stage hazards that kept players on their toes and forced them to work together closely to avoid failure.
Helldivers 2plans to ramp up the mayhem with a completely overhauled game that maintains its core mechanics while changing the overall gameplay from a top-down twin-stick shooter to a 3D third-person shooter. This new shift in perspective should make things very interesting as gameplay trailers show the overall chaos ofHelldiversis still alive and well in the upcoming sequel. Players will be able to hop into the action and do their duty protecting Super Earth when the release drops on February 8th. Here’s a look at when players can drop in.

It will be interesting to see how much the title deviates from the original release but from trailers and general game information, it appears to be very similar at its core. Players can take on missions solo or join others online. Missions promise to be chaotic and players will have to work together to operate certain weapons and devices. Similar to the first game, Stratagems make a return as deployable items, drop pods, and weapons that players can equip and toss out during missions to aid them in battle.
