Hollow Knight: Silksongwas first revealed over 1000 days ago, a marker that only a few games share between reveal andrelease likeThe Elder Scrolls 6. Although Team Cherry’sHollow Knight: Silksongis an indie game, it has built as much hype as any major AAA game. So, fans hoping that it would be at Summer Game Fest comes as no surprise.

In fact, many wholeheartedly believed it would be there following a potentialHollow Knight: SilksongTease. Matthew Griffin, marketing and publishing on the Team Cherry title, responded to a Geoff Keighley tweet ahead of the showcase. Keighley had implied he got a new world premiere in his inbox, with Griffin saying he approves of the tease. It’s not a stretch, then, to think that Keighley and Griffin wereteasingHollow Knight: Silksong’s presence at Summer Game Fest.

Now, the showcase has come and gone. There are still moreSummer Game Fest-related events going on, like Day of the Devs, but sinceSilksongwas not on that first stage, it’s not likely to appear later either. It could still pop up at another showcase this June, or later this year, but Team Cherry has been in heads-down development mode and hasn’t publicly teased or suggested anything.

Of course, that doesn’t mean those hoping to see the game aren’t upset.Hollow Knight: Silksongtrends online following Summer Game Fest, with many fans sharing memes or expressing their frustrations that the game wasn’t there. Team Cherry will no doubt showHollow Knight: Silksongwhen it’s ready, but it’s no secret that it’s a small team and development is no easy feat.

Many have comparedHollow Knight: SilksongtoElden Ring, which fits almost perfectly.Elden Ringwas a hotly anticipated game that, event after event, never showed its face, with fans often reacting similarly toSilksongfans. Of course,Elden Ringis out now and fans are already excited and hoping forElden RingDLC, butSilksongseems to be following the same approach as Elden Ring prior to its pre-release marketing: staying quiet.

Anyone suggestingHollow Knight: Silksongis the indie equivalent ofElden Ringwouldn’t be wrong, as far as how fan hopes tie into showcases. Fans will just have to wait for Team Cherry’s next showcase, and hopefully just likeElden Ring, it lives up to fan expectations.
