Releasing earlier this week to mixed responses,Cyberpunk 2077has had a strange launch, with fans seemingly loving the game buthating the egregious bugs and glitches still in need of patching out. That being said, the content appears to be landing well with fans unafflicted by significant, game-breaking glitches, with players taking to the internet to share some of their favorite aspects of CD Projekt Red’s newest project.
Some of the most shared content celebrates the game’s assortment of fun Easter eggs, which reference everything fromThe Witcher 3andPortaltoDemolition ManandBlade Runner. The most recent of these easter eggs to emerge cites yet another video game classic, with Reddit user Spacer1997 discovering a nod toGrand Theft Auto: San Andreaswithin the game’s expansive world.

According to the user, they found the reference outside River’strailer park on “the train tracks heading east,” with the Easter egg found in the form of a shard on a dead body. Shards serve as the game’s way of expandingCyberpunk 2077’slore, but here, it seems the discovery points more towards one ofSan Andreas’most iconic and widely-despised missions. Documenting the interaction between two suspiciously familiar characters by the name of “JC” and “Little Smoke,” the shard depicts an argument between the pair as they try to catch up with a speeding train. JC seemingly can’t maintain pace with the moving vehicle, and when a second train begins approaching from the opposite direction, it seems the character is met with a grisly fate.
Trying to get in touch with his deceased partner, Little Smoke calls out to him, eventually realizing he’s gone and uttering the iconic line: “all you had to do was follow the damn train, JC!” For those who didn’t lose hours of their life toSan Andreas’most notorious mission, the Shard pays homage to an infamously-punishing level titled “Wrong Side of the Tracks,” where CJ and Big Smoke are tasked with following a train. Upon losing the vehicle and failing the mission, Big Smoke would utter the line “all you had to do was follow the damn train, CJ,” drilling it into the heads of thousands.
It’s a fun reference to a classic game and just one of many homages located within Night City. Alongside that, players will uncover Norman Reedus' BB unit fromDeath Stranding,a street dedicated to the creator of the original tabletopCyberpunkgame, Mike Pondsmith, anda hotel named after the villain of the originalBlade Runner, Roy Batty.
Cyberpunk 2077is out now on PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
