Referencing the hashtag #sellthesnyderversetonetflix, Gunn said, “This has got to be the wackiest hashtag ever since 1) Netflix hasn’t expressed any such interest…& 2) Zack hasn’t expressed any interest & seems to behappy doing what he’s doing(and yes, we too have talked).” He clarified in a reply further down the thread the Snyder reached out to express support for the decisions about the DCU that Gunn has made public. Gunn has already discussed some of his plans forthe future of the DCU. One plan that’s sparked particular interest among fans is the decision to have an official DCU continuity as well as the “DC Elseworlds”, a category that will encompass stories told using DC characters that don’t fit into the official continuity. Films likeJoker: Folie àDeuxand the sequel toThe Batmanare likely to be included under the umbrella of DC Elseworlds. This move has been compared to the MCU’s recent venture into the multiverse and could be a sign of Gunn’s goals for DC Studios.
Though his ambitions may be lofty, it looks like Gunn is stepping into the future of the DCU well-prepared. Armed with his experience as directing theGuardians of the Galaxyfilms - arguablysome of the MCU’s most successful installments- and the support of one of DC’s veteran directors, Gunn could very well be on the way to turning the DCU into a worthy opponent of the MCU. His conversations with Snyder might also hint at the future of the DCU. With such a positive relationship between the two, there may be hope that Snyder will return to the world of DC. For now, fans can rest assured knowing that Gunn has Snyder’s blessing.
