Around the launch ofCall of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Activision Blizzard updatedCall of Duty: Warzoneto reflect theCold Warsetting by changing Verdansk to Verdansk ‘84. Going beyond putting a new coat of paint on the battle royale setting, the Pacific Caldera was released mere months ago afterCall of Duty: Vanguard’slaunch. Just like the release of the previousCall of Dutygames, the release ofCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2is expected to change the island’s setting once again, according to Tom Henderson.
Call of Duty: Warzonereached over 100 million players since its 2020 release, and because the game has been free to play, it may have attracted players that aren’t otherwise interested in theCall of Dutyfranchise. Although Tom Henderson didn’t confirm whether the game will remain free whenWarzone 2releases, it will likely maintain the same standard. The leaker also confirmed that sometechnical improvements coming toWarzone 2,like the FOV slider come down to a technical limitation with the current battle royale client.
Just like familiar locations from pastCall of Dutytitles have been a focus ofCall of Duty: Warzone, the upcoming changes withCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 2may include some familiar locales that haven’t been featured in the battle royale before. Because Activision Blizzard was recently purchased by Microsoft, some fans have worried aboutCall of Duty’s future on PlayStation, but the franchise will remain multi-platform for now.
