Music is an intrinsic part ofGuardians of the Galaxy’sDNA. This was established with the release of the 2014 film of the same name and has continued with nearly every entry since. Creating an entire band just for this release that explains the origins of Star-Lord’s name and also serves as a backbone to the game is a great touch of detail. The Star-Lord band is a fictional 80s heavy metal group whose debut album was composed by Steve Sczepkowski and Yohann Boudreault. It is full of power-chord-laden rock anthems and moving ballads. Disc two is the original video game score from BAFTA and Ivor Novello-nominatedcomposer Richard Jacques ofMass Effectrenown.
Vinyl has come back in a very big way. And for afranchise likeGuardians of the Galaxywhose identity is largely rooted in the music that accompanies it, this vinyl offering makes the perfect companion piece for lovers of the game’s music. The sleeve and accompanying material are beautifully illustrated by Cesar Moreno. Soundtracks themselves are an arguably integral part of any game and original video game soundtracks comprise nearly an entire music genre all their own.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxywas developed by Eidos Montreal and published by Square Enix. It follows the team of rag-tag space mercenaries as they make their way through the galaxy. It received a largely positive response from critics and fans alike. This was thanks to the story and character development. However, the combat was criticized in the latter half of the game due to a feeling of grind due to ever-increasing enemy numbers and larger health bars.
Still, much like the belovedGuardians of the Galaxymovie, players have come to grow fond of this incarnation of the Guardians. While it is meant to be a complete, standalone game with no DLC, many hold out hope for surprise DLC or the announcement of a sequel. Until either happens, there will be a strong soundtrack to tide fans over.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxyis available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
