Marvel’s Midnight Sunsjust revealed a flashy new trailer at Summer Game Fest, highlighting some combat, story beats, and more.Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ release datewas also confirmed to be October 7, but perhaps what was the most eye-catching was not when fans can play it, but who they can play.
The newMarvel’s Midnight Sunstrailer confirms that Spider-Man and Scarlet Witch (who is also one of Lilith’s Fallen, interestingly enough) will be playable characters. Aside from the Hunter, they join the likes of Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Captain America, Captain Marvel, Ghost Rider, Blade, Nico Minoru, Magik, and Wolverine. This means there is one character who has yet to be announced.

Game Rant recently spoke withMarvel’s Midnight Sunscreative director Jake Solomon about Spidey, who shared many exciting details. First and foremost, Solomon confirmed that Spider-Man is played byYuri Lowenthal, the popular actor who plays him in Insomniac’sSpider-Mangames. However, the two do not share universes—everyone at Firaxis and Marvel just loves his work as Spider-Man.
In terms of how Spider-Man plays inMarvel’s Midnight Suns, he’s a fast character capable of hitting multiple targets, though his damage output is not the highest. Compared toMidnight Sunscharacters like Blade and Ghost Rider, who are powerful damage dealers, Spider-Man comes in weaker but is able to hit several characters around the battlefield. As Solomon put it,
“He can attack multiple targets very easily, and he gets a lot of abilities that don’t cost card plays. And so the more you play with him, the more it’s like, ‘hey, this ability is just free.’ And his ultimate ability is like the next three Spidey abilities do not cost a card play. So you like hold on to Spidey, and then you’re like, ‘Alright, now I’m going to play that.’ And then Spidey just goes nuts and does a ton of stuff, again, meant to match his personality. He’s not a huge damage dealer, but he can attack lots of targets at once and he’s super fast.
Game Rant was also able topreviewMarvel’s Midnight Sunsand can confirm that Spider-Man plays a pretty significant role in the story, as all heroes do. Unlike Wolverine, however, and other heroes who are unlocked later in the game, Spider-Man is one of the earliest heroes players will get to check out. As seen in the trailer, players will be going up against Fallen Venom, and Spidey’s knowledge of the symbiote proves useful.
Either way, Spidey fans should be in for a real treat come release, as not only will they be spending time with him in combat, but they’ll be able to useMarvel Midnight Suns’ social systemsto interact with him in a multitude of ways.
Marvel’s Midnight Sunsreleases October 7 for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
