The new Black Panther card forMarvel Snapis trolling some opponents due to a graphical glitch caused after upgrading it. The new season ofMarvel Snaphas begun and it’s Black Panther-themed, in celebration ofBlack Panther: Wakanda Forever’s release in theaters. Players are still getting used to the Black Panther card and how it can influence the game. ButMarvel Snapplayers likely didn’t expect to be tricked in a way that developer Second Dinner likely never intended.

InMarvel Snap, there’s a progression system surrounding cards that leads to their visuals changing. Each card can be upgraded multiple times, adding effects like 3D art, shiny logos, and animation. One particularly interesting upgrade is whatMarvel Snapdubs Frame Break. This is the first upgrade a card can have, and it expands the art beyond its frame. This gives the character a 3D effect, like it’s leaping out of the card. It looks great, but it also has led to an unexpected situation.

Black Panther’s card ability doubles its power on reveal. It starts with 4 power, but immediately doubles up to 8.The issue isn’t withBlack Panther’s power, though, it’s with its art. The base Black Panther card features the hero surrounded by falling leaves. When upgraded to Frame Break, and then to add 3D, this creates a fun effect like black Panther is leaping through the wilderness. However, the upgrades also lead to one of the leaves covering Black Panther’s power, making his 8 power look like 9.

It just so happens that 9 power is an important threshold inMarvel Snap. 9 power allows a card to be targeted byShang Chi, a card that destroys all opposing cards with 9 or more power at a location. Imagine how betrayed aMarvel Snapplayer would feel if they tried to Shang Chi a 9-power Black Panther, only for it to not work because it’s actually 8-power.

That’s exactly what’s happened to manyMarvel Snapplayerssince the start of the Black Panther season. Yes, upon close inspection the Black Panther’s 8 power would be obvious, since the total power at a location would still show correctly. For players unfamiliar with Black Panther, however, it’s easy to just look at the card, see 9 power, and think it’s a perfect target for Shang Chi.

The developers and artists atSecond Dinnerare likely very aware of the importance of clarity in communicating a card’s attributes. How Black Panther’s art ended up causing an issue isn’t clear, but it’s likely something easily addressed in a future patch. For the time being,Marvel Snapplayers should be wary of falling leaves and Black Panther’s power not being a multiple of four.
