With all the active pieces working together inEvil Genius 2, there is a lot of room for players to make mistakes. Something that seems small can actually be very disrupted later in the game. The best thing for players to do is toavoid making the following common mistakesto quickly pave their way to world domination.
7Not Using Enough Corridors In The Lair Setup
The player will start with essentially a blank canvaswhen developing their lairfor their Evil Genius. They’ll construct everything from corridors to rooms, digging out the space for each as needed. One major mistake many players make is not using enough corridors in their setup and bunching all their rooms together.
The problem with this is that an enemy agent can easily sneak in, gather the intel they need, and slide on out without being detected. Using corridors will allow for spreading out these important rooms and setting traps to deal with infiltrators. It also avoids the problem of later running out of options when there is nowhere to put rooms or corridors because initial planning and construction did not include enough of them.

6Failing To Sell The Broken Casino Machines
In the casino, the player will find loads of non-working machines and an old fountain. While they can let this stuff sit around collecting dust, it has a much more beneficial use. Selling it will allow the player to raise a good chunk of money to put toward their world domination activities.

Instead of scrambling to make money in other ways, these machines provide an easy income to allow the player to purchase needed enhancements for their lair. A mistake often made is not selling this equipment until much later because they don’t know it can be sold. The ideal time to sell these is after the quest line for recruiting a valet. There will be an optional quest that asks the player to sell four of the machines, so they will get the money and a reward for quest completion.
5Not Taking Advantage Of Building Vertically
If the player is a returning fan from the first installment ofEvil Genius, they’re very familiar with the original building mechanics, which limited them to one floor. Unfortunately, this thinking carries over a lot into the sequel where things are quite a bit different.
InEvil Genius 2, there are no more single-floor building restrictions. The player can and is encouraged to build multiple floors for their lair. This pretty much makes the options endless for how they cancreate the perfect lairfor their operation. For example, they can protect their precious gold stores by putting them on a higher level within the lair, making it more difficult for enemies to reach.

4Attacking Enemy Agents In Front Of Paying Customers
Once the lair and cover business are up and running, Enemy Agents will begin infiltrating the operation to investigate. They’ll be searching for whatever information they can find and, while they do need to be dealt with, it has to be done in a certain way. The goal is to run a successful cover business so that the player’s paying customers are none the wiser about what’s going on behind the scenes.
This means the player cannot just go out and fire on the Enemy Agent in public. They’ll need to employ their henchmenwho have special abilitiesto dispatch these Enemy Agents. For example Eli Barracuda, Jr. features a Silver Tongue ability in which he can talk to one of these agents, destroying their resolve. Alternatively, Janet Bombe offers the player the Scramble Evidence ability, which will wipe any collected evidence from the Enemy Agent, causing them to leave empty-handed.

3Trying To Build The Criminal Network In Too Many Regions At Once
As the Minions are collected and the lair is built up, the player will need to beginestablishing their Criminal Network. At this point, a very common mistake is to spread too far and wide while doing this. Each region has its own Super Agent that the player will need to contend with once they begin building their Criminal Network. They’ll leave the player alone until activity starts in their region.

Additionally, there is an extra traveling Super Agent, John Steele, that covers all areas. So, if the player chooses to build their Criminal Network in multiple regions at one time, they’ll have to deal with each region’s Super Agent and John Steele. Limiting their activity to one region at a time will reduce the amount of interactions they have with Super Agents, allowing them an easier time of building up their network.
2Starting A Side Story While Conducting Research
Side stories often come with the requirement to research something. If the player chose to start the side story while they had research in progress, this is problematic. They have two options here. First, they can wait until their research is over.
Second, they can cancel the active research. However, this is a waste of valuable resources. The best thing to do to avoid this mistake is ensuring that there is no active research when a side story is started.

1Stockpiling Assets In One Place
If the player stockpiles their assets like their power stations or gold all in one place, they’re making it very easy for Enemy Agents to come in and destroy all their hard work. Fire can quickly spread throughout the lair, destroying everything in its path before the Minions can put it out. Additionally, the Enemy Agentsenjoy using explosivesto destroy key areas of the lair.
The best alternative is to build several smaller rooms for assets. So, instead of one large room for the entire lair’s power source, the player should create several smaller ones that are spread throughout the lair. This should be done whenever possible to protect as much of the lair’sassets as possible.
