Now that all the guest characters featured inMortal Kombat 1’s first Kombat Pack have been released, players are set to await the eventual launch of Takeda along with the remaining Kameos. The long-awaited Homelander is now available, but NetherRealm’s choice of assist fighter to accompany him may have come as a surprise to many who did not expect the return of one ofMKX’s least popular characters. Once one half of a fighter composed of two partners, Ferra has been revealed to be making her way intoMortal Kombat 1alone in a way that all but confirms the fate of Torr.
Apart from those appearing in the base roster, characters from legacyMKtitles have most frequently been represented by Kameos throughout the Kombat Pack.Kameos like Shujinko or Mavadohave served to effectively reference their past incarnations, but Ferra and Torr have not survived this process. While the pair were intrinsically linked as a singular playable character inMortal Kombat X, this has now been changed in favor of allowing any fighter to fill the “mount” role of Torr. They may never have been a high-demand pick among fans, but this change makes it hard to imagine that the pair of Outworlders will receive the same spotlight moving forward.

Ferra’s Mortal Kombat 1 Kameo Eliminates the Need for Torr
Adopting Ferra and Torr’s Moveset
There was an experimental interplay that occurred between the two characters in theirMKXappearance as a double fighter archetype, as the player primarily controlled Torr and utilized Ferra for various projectiles and utilities. Now that Ferra is set to appear alone, however, it seems that she can accomplish similar feats without her partner.
She comes with a similar set of launching and sliding maneuvers that utilize her diminutive frame, butFerra inMortal Kombat 1also now has the ability to mount any fighter and temporarily provide them with attacks that only Torr used to execute. She can even damage her mounted fighter to buff them, or remain primarily on the sidelines to increase meter gain, managing to evoke the Variation system which made its debut in her previous appearance.
Torr is a Tough Sell When Pitted Against the Mortal Kombat Franchise’s Competition
Why Torr is Unlikely to Ever Return Alone
Some might find it reasonable to predict that Torr could appear as his own Kameo or fighter at some point now that he’s been split from Ferra, but the inclusion of some of his functionality within her abilities paints a grim picture for this lackluster Outworlder. While not theweakest kombatants inMortal Kombathistory, Ferra and Torr largely failed to achieve the same recognition as the more well-received newcomers inMKX, leaving many players surprised that one half of the pair even made it into the latest title.
Considering Torr has hardly ever received any semblance of character development as an individual and Ferra has always represented the pair’s personality, his inclusion could be met with controversy when compared to the array of more popular options.
MK1has found success in reviving notable parts of the roster from the long-dormant 3D era of the series, and even the most high-profile returning faces fromMortal Kombat Xhave yet to appear in new iterations as well.Takeda Takahashi and the Kombat Kidsare much more likely to generate hype than one half of one of the game’s least memorable offerings, leaving Torr in a bleak position following Ferra’s separate release. There’s no telling what developments could occur in the future followingMortal Kombat 1, but there are plenty of legacy fighters that players may see in new Kombat Packs until then.
