With E3 quickly approaching, the rumor mill has come into full swing with leaks circulating the internet rapidly as fans eagerly anticipating this summer’s gaming events. Last week, ex-developers of theShin Megami Tenseiseries announced a new JRPG franchise titled “Monark,” which is slated to be formally revealed in this week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu, Japan’s biggest gaming magazine. While the official reveal of the new RPG is still slated for this week’s issue, major details ofMonarkhave leaked including its release date.
Monarkwas first teased in last week’s issue of Weekly Famitsu, which referred to it as a “new school RPG.” The game comes from ex-Atlus developers, notably some key personnel involved with the studio’sShin Megami Tenseiseries, including Ryutaro Ito, the planner for the first two games in theSMTseries. The game will be published by FuRyu, the team behindThe Caligula Effectand its upcoming sequel, which are notably written by Tadashi Satomi, the writer ofthe first twoPersonagames.

According to Twitter user “xenosaga,” publisher FuRyu accidentallyuploaded the reveal trailer forMonarkto one of its social media channels before quickly pulling it. The trailer is set to debut this Thursday, June 10th. The trailer reportedly revealed a Japanese release date of October 14th 2021. Platforms for the game have not yet been revealed, however FuRyu’sThe Caligula Effect 2is slated to release on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, so it is fair to assumeMonarkwill follow suit. The design for the protagonist has leaked, who Gematsu claims will be voiced by Gakuto Kajiwara.
As of right now,Monarkhas not been confirmed for English release whatsoever. FuRyu’sThe Caligula Effect 2is set to release on June 24th in Japan, however the English release is still slated for an ambiguous “Fall 2021” release window. The localization is being handled byDisgaeapublisher NIS America, who could possibly take up the mantle of localizingMonark. It is possible that another publisher could take over localization efforts for the game though.
While it remains to be seen whenMonarkwill release in English, a recent leak revealed thatShin Megami Tensei 5is slated torelease on Nintendo Switch in November 2021. Last year Atlus revealed thatShin Megami Tensei 5will receive a simultaneous worldwide release, which Sega is planning to make a standard going forward with all of its titles.Shin Megami Tensei 5gameplay and release date information is expected to be formally revealed at Nintendo’s E3 2021 Direct presentation.
