Summary
The first Kombat Pack forMortal Kombat 1was showcased before the game’s launch back in September. The reveal trailer received mostly favorable reviews, featuring some surprising new characters coming to the game. Kombat Pack 1 is set to add another six main roster characters and five Kameo Fighters. The fighters will be released incrementally, with the first of which coming in November 2023, and the rest continuing to roll out through the Summer of 2024. Those who have purchased theMortal Kombat 1Premium and Kollector’s Edition will receive these characters as they release. The Kombat Pack is also available to purchase separately for $39.99 USD.
ThoughMK1’s Kombat Pack features many exciting characters to look forward to, some of them are a little less groundbreaking than others.MKKombat Packs typically consist of both guest characters andcharacters from theMKUniverse, and this one is no exception. Kombat Pack 1’s guest characters generated plenty of hype as they were so unexpected. But theMKUniverse characters, Quan Chi and Ermac, though welcome additions to the roster, are not quite groundbreaking.

Kombat Pack 1’s Returning Characters
Why Quan Chi and Ermac are a little Underwhelming
Quan Chi and Ermac stand out among the rest of Kombat Pack 1’s new characters as they are already featured in the game. They both played a substantial part inthe Story Mode ofMK1and are prominent in certain characters' Tower endings. Quan Chi is even the last boss of the Tower Mode along with Shang Tsung. Players have already faced both of these characters in battle and have some familiarity with their character models and move sets. When they are finally added to the game, they may not feel as substantial.
It is unusual for a Kombat Pack to feature characters that are already in the game. Though they are both classic characters that will be incredible additions to the roster, it almost feels as though they should already be playable. Both of these characters could have rounded outthe main roster ofMortal Kombat 1, leaving space for other characters to make their way into the Kombat Packs. As future Kombat Packs are likely to come eventually, it will be interesting to see who will be added next.

Future Mortal Kombat 1 DLC
In the past, DLC characters went on to play a large part in future story DLC, but in this case, Quan Chi and Ermac’s stories have already been shown in the base game. This meansTakeda could have an important role inMK1DLCin the future. Perhaps aiding Scorpion and the new Shirai Ryu to fight the Lin Kuei. It remains to be seen what story DLC, if any, will be added to the game.
It is also possible that a Kombat Pack 2 could coincide with story DLC as inMortal Kombat 11’s Aftermath. That would leaveKombat Pack 2 to feature new guest charactersas well asMKcharacters that are tied to the story. Though there is no shortage of characters to add, it would be most exciting if they have not been shown in the game yet. To continue the trend of revamping 3-D Era characters, Kombat Pack 2 could feature such characters as Drahmin, Hotaru, or Kira. Whatever the case, fans have a lot to look forward to in the future ofMK1.
