Summary

Recently leaked audio files for Rick Sanchez in crossover fighting gameMultiVersusare hinting towards several new characters coming to the game. TheMultiVersusaudio files directly address Marceline the Vampire Queen fromAdventure Timeand leave strong hints that The Powerpuff Girls, Aquaman, and at least one character fromRWBYwill be joining the fighting game roster.

MultiVersuscelebrated its official launch on May 28 after a successful 21-month-long early access period that gave players a good impression of the fighting game, letting them pit multiple Warner Bros. characters against each other. A few days before launch, previews of the game revealed that the titularcharacters fromRick and Mortyhad been recastin MultiVersus, replacing embattled cartoon series co-creator and voice actor Justin Roiland, and allowing those two characters to finally banter with their opponents.

New MultiVersus Update Has Fans Wanting to Save the Game

These new leaked audio files, which were released on Twitter by user KrustyforMultiversus, appear to feature the voice of Ian Cardoni, who now plays Rick in both the cartoon and the fighting game, and contain banter that both Rick and Pickle Rick might say to other fighters in the game. The only character he actually addresses by name in these leaks is Marceline, and if there has been any doubt that he was speaking to the character fromAdventure Time, he makes several references to her being a vampire and asks, “You and that Bubblegum chick ever hook up?”, addressing her romantic relationship with Princess Bubblegum onAdventure Time. This leak also shouldn’t be surprising to anyone following the game’s development, as itsdirector gauged interest about adding Marceline toMultiVersuson social media in January 2023.

Possible Leaked MultiVersus Characters

While the leaked Rick Sancez lines don’t address any other characters by name, they still leave some clear hints as to who he’s talking to. In the most obvious example, he speaks to “Utonium’s girls,” by which he clearly means The Powerpuff Girls — Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup — from the cartoon of the same name. These lines also include multiple references to the girls' home city of Townsville, allusions to them being both adorable and very young, and include the line “Sugar, spice, everything nice; gotta remember that one.” This leak also doesn’t come as a huge surprise, consideringa newMultiversusstage revealshowed off Townsville City Hall and the girls' nemesis, Mojo Jojo, as a stage hazard.

There are also obvious allusions to DC Superhero Aquaman coming to the game, as Rick mocks the character he’s addressing by announcing that they talk to fish. It’s unlikely thatAquamanmovie actor Jason Momoa’s likeness will appear in the game, however, as one of Rick’s leaked lines references that Aquman got a cool reboot and asks, “That not happen in your dimension yet?”

Finally, the leaks include references to an American anime and a female character with “skinny little arms” that uses a scythe as a weapon. These references would all apply to Ruby Rose, the main character ofRWBY.Multiversus' director has criticized the datamine leaksand promised to shore up security on game files, so characters leaking before release may become less frequent in the future.
