Summary
Microsoft has officially announced aGears of Warprequel game calledGears of War: E-Day. Prior to the Xbox Games Showcase, rumors were swirling about the company’s plans for its massiveGears of Warfranchise. The rumors made a lot of claims about what fans could expect fromGears of Warat the event, but as it turns out, none of them were true.
Going into the Xbox Games Showcase, there were rumors that Microsoft was going to announce aGears of Warcollection, alaHalo: The Master Chief Collection. Other rumors claimed that the company was going to announceGears of War 6, which wouldcontinue the story from whereGears 5left off. Suffice to say, no one was expecting the nextGears of Wargame to actually be a prequel, bringing back fan-favorite character Dominic Santiago.

As revealed in theGears of War: E-Dayannouncement trailer, the new game will serve as an origin story for hero Marcus Fenix. Set during thehorrific Emergence Day incident, where the Locust hordes first emerged from the Earth, the game will see Marcus and Dom as they team up against these monstrosities for the first time ever. The trailer doesn’t reveal too many other details about what fans can expect fromGears of War: E-Day, beyond the fact that it’s set 14 years prior to the events of the firstGears of Wargame, though it has been confirmed that it’s being built using Unreal Engine 5, which should deliver “unprecendented graphical fidelity.”
Gears of War: E-Day Trailer
Unfortunately, Microsoft stopped short of providing a potential release date forGears of War: E-Day, and with no gameplay in sight, it’s hard to say when exactly fans will get to play the game. It’s already been five years sinceGears 5was released to the masses, and so it’s safe to say that many fans are growing anxious for a freshGears of Warexperience. Hopefully, the wait forGears of War: E-Dayisn’t too long. Maybe thelong-rumoredGears of Warcollectionwill actually be released to help fill the void in the meantime, though fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
The newly-announcedGears of War: E-Dayprequel game isn’t the only upcomingGears of Warproject. AGears of Warmovie and TV seriesare both in development at Netflix, so there’s plenty forGears of Warfans to look forward to in the years ahead.
