With the release of Version 3.4 just a few days away,Genshin Impacthas debuted a new story-focused trailer centering around Xiao’s duties as the last remaining Yaksha. The HoYovwrse RPG has frequently features animated trailers depicting the backstory of several characters alongside its typical teasers leading up to a character’s release.Animated shorts like “Tsubaki in Falling Snow"have seen HoYoverse providing more backstory and history for some of the game’s most popular characters. Now, the newest story trailer showcases one of Liyue’s adepti, the fan-favorite Xiao.
As a member of Liyue’s adepti and the Yaksha who once served under the Geo Archon, Xiao has appeared frequently inGenshin Impact’s Liyue story and events. Xiao played a major role in the main story of Liyue, helping the player to defeat the Fatui plotting to bring down the city. The Yaksha has also featured regularly inGenshin Impact’s many Liyue-focused events, regularly appearing in the game’s Lantern Rite festivities and prominently within the “Perilous Trail” Archon Quest. Now, fans are getting a closer look atGenshin Impact’s “Vigilant Yaksha.”

Genshin Impact’s newest trailer, titled “Endless Suffering,” showcases the divide between Xiao’s duties as a Yaksha and his reluctance to integrate into the modern Liyue. The opening portion of the trailer features Xiao battling with various demons to protect the mountain homes of the Adepti, while also battling the demons dwelling within himself. After collapsing multiple times, Xiao finds himself in Liyue Harborbeing tended to by Baizhuand Qiqi. The video also features Venti near its conclusion, urging Xiao to “take off the mask,” if only for a night.
Xiao is one of four characters set to be featured duringGenshin Impact’s Version 3.4, with three Liyue re-runs set for the game’s annual Lantern Rite update. Xiao will appear during the first half of the updatealongside new Sumeru character Alhaithamand the game’s newest four-star character, Yaoyao. The second half will feature two more popular Liyue characters returning to the limited banner with Yelan and Hu Tao running during the second half. Version 3.4 will also addGenshin Impact’s newest skins with both Ayaka and Lisa receiving a skin.
Aside from the multiple characters appearing during Version 3.4,Genshin Impact’s upcoming update is set to bring plenty of new gameplay content. Version 3.4 will introduce thesecond portion of the Sumeru desert, containing a new world boss and the continuation of the “Golden Slumber” storyline. The update will feature the return of the popular Lantern Rite event with players able to obtain a four-star Liyue character for free, including the newly released Yaoyao.Genshin Impact’s next update is set to bring new characters, new places to explore, and new adventures for players.
