InNew Worldgems are far more than just shiny trinkets to show off at a fancy party; they’re the key to improving one’s weapons and armor and thereby thriving in a sometimes unforgiving world. Venturing into the mines with a Pickaxe in hand is something that virtually every player will want to do eventually.

New Worldcan be a complicated game at times, but getting more gems doesn’t have to be a long and difficult process. There are a few basic tips that the player can follow in order to gather this precious resource more quickly, cutting down on the time required to improve their equipment. Here are some of the most important things to know about farming gems.
Know What To Look For
A player gets gems by mining Ore Veins. These are marked by the Resource Locations Icon on the map. Once at the marked location, look for a dark rock nearby and approach it.If it’s an Ore Vein, a pop-up will appear showing the name of the resource. Equip the Pickaxe and long-press “E” to mine the vein.
All ore–whether it’s Iron, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Starmetal, or Orichalcum–has a chance of dropping gems when mined. Having a better Pickaxe increases the chances of getting gems, as does equipping a Miner’s Charm, so it’s worthwhile totransfer quality equipment out of storage.

Increase Mining Level And Mining Luck
The single biggest factor that affects one’s probability of gem drops is the player’s skill level. The second is Mining Luck, a bonus that the player can fortunately increase in several ways. If a player wants to get the most fromtheir Great Axe build, they’ll need to hone their skills in the mine.

Leveling up the Mining skill is the first and most important step for gem farming, since the faster the player is able to farm mining nodes, the less time it will take to amass a stockpile of gems. Note that not all nodes are created equally. High-tier resource nodes drop high-tier gems, so improving the Mining skill is an absolute must in order to get access to better gems sooner.
Get Strength And Stonecutting
Improving a character’s Strength attribute grants bonuses to mining, such as a 10% buff to mining speed when the character reaches 50 points of Strength. This is particularly convenient for characters who already happen to beusing strength-scaling weapons.
Leveling up the Stonecutting skill is also useful, since Stonecutting is necessary to refine gems later. Unlike cut gems, raw gems can’t be slotted into gear, so the sooner a character can learn Stonecutting, the faster they can put the gems they’ve mined to use.

Use Azoth Or A Tasty Dish
Mining Luck is a passive perk that is, unsurprisingly, essential for anyone who wants to farm gems quickly. There are two ways the player can get items with this perk: either by crafting an item with this perk or by randomly finding looted gear that already has it. Azoth, a resource that improves the potency of gear bonuses, can be used to increase the power of Mining Luck on crafted items.

In a bit of good newsfor immersive MMO playerswho have spent their time learning to cook, eating certain foods, such as Herb-Roasted Potatoes, will also increase Mining Luck. The 1,400 point bonus from that meal lasts for almost half an hour, which is plenty of time to farm gems. Better yet, the Mining Luck bonuses granted by food stack with bonuses granted by Strength perks and high Mining skill. If the player wants to farm as quickly as possible, it pays to bring every advantage.
Farm Amrine Temple
Likeother difficult multiplayer games, certain places always give the player an advantage. Starting at about level 23, the Amrine Temple Expedition is an excellent way to farm gems. Even if the player doesn’t want to spend one day in the same location,a couple of trips to the Temple can pay off big.
The Temple Expedition isn’t particularly difficult, making it an inviting option for newer players, but even high-level players can benefit from a quick trip to the Temple when their gem stockpile starts to run low.
